Informasi ketersediaan stok karbon memegang peranan penting untuk menggambarkan kondisi ekosistem hutan dalam konteks pengelolaan hutan yang lestari. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi perubahan penggunaan lahan selama 2 dekade (1996 - 2016) di kawasan hutan dan menganalisis pengaruhnya terhadap nilai biomassa di kawasan hutan Provinsi Jawa Barat dengan menggunakan citra penginderaan jauh. Informasi perubahan penggunaan lahan diperoleh dengan menginterpretasi citra Landsat secara visual, sementara estimasi nilai cadangan karbon dilakukan dengan menggunakan transformasi NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) yang diambil dari citra Landsat. Nilai biomassa dihitung dengan persamaan alometrik yang ada.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dari tahun 1996 hingga 2016 luas hutan di kawasan hutan di wilayah hutan Provinsi Jawa Barat mengalami penurunan dari tahun ke tahun, perubahan penggunaan lahan yang paling dominan adalah perubahan dari hutan menjadi hutan tanaman. Faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap perubahan penggunaan lahan hutan di kawasan hutan Provinsi Jawa Barat adalah jarak ke permukiman, jarak ke jalan, dan faktor ketinggian. Nilai stok karbon hutan di kawasan hutan Provinsi Jawa Barat dari tahun 1996 hingga 2006 mengalami penurunan sebesar 7.477.014,04 ton C (26,5%). Nilai stok karbon hutan dari tahun 2006 hingga 2016 juga mengalami penurunan namun tidak sebesar penurunan pada periode sebelumnya yaitu sebesar 752.149,7 ton C (3,6%).

Information on the availability of carbon stocks plays an important role to describe the condition of the forest ecosystem in the context of sustainable forest management. This study aims to identify land use change for 2 decades (1996 - 2016) in forest area and analyze its effect on biomass value in forest area of West Java Province using remote sensing image. Land use change information was obtained by interpreting Landsat imagery visually, while estimation of carbon stock values was performed using NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) transformation. The biomass value is calculated by the existing allometric equation.

The results of this study indicate that from 1996 to 2016 forest area in the forest region of West Java Province decreased from year to year, the most dominant land use change is the change from forest to plantation forest. Factors that affect the change of land use in the forest region of West Java Province is the distance to the settlement, distance to the road, and altitude factors. The value of forest carbon stock in the forest area of West Java Province from 1996 to 2006 decreased by 7.477.014.04 ton C (26.5%). The value of forest carbon stocks from 2006 to 2016 also decreased but not as much as the decrease in the previous period which was 752,149.7 tons C (3.6%).
