ABSTRAKJurnal ini membahas tentang pemilihan kata lsquo;Hwangtogi rsquo; sebagai judul dalam cerpen karya Kim Dongni. Hwangtogi berlatar di sebuah desa tandus di Gunung Kumo, yang memiliki banyak cerita legenda. Namun, sebagai judul cerpen, kata lsquo;Hwangtogi rsquo;sama sekali tidak muncul. Oleh karena itu, penulisan jurnal ini bertujuan menganalisis makna dari simbol dalam cerpen untuk mengetahui pesan dalam pemilihan kata lsquo;Hwangtogi rsquo;. Selanjutnya, analisis simbol cerpen akan dikaitkan dengan makna semiotik dan kondisi masyarakat Korea melalui pendekatan sosiologi. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan analisis deskriptif. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode pustaka. Selanjutnya, teks cerpen akan diteliti menggunakan teknik membaca cermat. Temuan dari penelitian ini adalah simbol Hwangtogi mengisyaratkan pesan untuk mengingatkan kembali keindahan Korea yang direbut Jepang. Dengan begitu, pesan kemerdekaan dapat tersampaikan walaupun secara tersirat.

ABSTRACTThis journal discussed the selection of lsquo Hwangtogi rsquo as a title in Kim Dongni rsquo s short story. Hwangtogi is set in a barren village on Kumo Mountain which is full of folklores. However, the title lsquo Hwangtogi rsquo is not mentioned in the story. Therefore, this journal aims to analyze the meaning of symbols used by the author in this story and shows the story behind the chosen word lsquo Hwangtogi rsquo as the title. After that, the analysis will be associated with semiotic meaning and condition of Korean society through sociology approach. The method used is qualitative method with descriptive analysis. The writer used a literature method to collect sources for this journal. Furthermore, the writer used text technique of close reading to analyze this story. The result of this journal shows that the symbol of Hwangtogi has a message that recall the beauty of Korea which previously seized by Japan. Therefore, the message of freedom can be implicitly conveyed.
