 Abstract

ABSTRACT
The finite element method is used for stress analysis and applied in the industrial field for design of new equipment as well as for assessment of damage equipment. One application of the finite element method is for equipment pipe header catalyst cooler, which is a heat exchanger apparatus where the thermal load will be considered in stress analysis calculation. The focus of this research is to know the effect of the combination structural load and thermal load to deformation and stress on pipe header catalyst cooler using multiphysic finite element method. The research was conducted by modeling using ANSYS software also experimental hardness test and chemical composition test to validate material property. As a result, the effect of a combination structural loads and thermal loads increases the deformation and stress values as the temperature load increases. The catalyst cooler pipe header design is appropriate but mechanical failure possible occur by other causes beyond the design load that makes the pipe header structure fail.
