ABSTRAKPenelitian ini membahas bagaimana kepercayaan di antara para anggota, berperan penting dalam perkembangan jaringan komunitas Osoji Club. Menurut Fukuyama 1995 , kesediaan untuk mempercayai orang asing mendorong keterlibatan masyarakat dalam membangun komunitas, dan membantu mengatasi dilema dari tindakan kolektif. Perbedaan etnis diasumsikan dapat menghasilkan tingkat kepercayaan in-group yang tinggi, tetapi sedikit atau tidak ada kepercayaan kepada orang lain.Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi terlibat di dalam kegiatan-kegiatan Osoji Club, serta wawancara mendalam in-depth interview dengan key informant yaitu ketua dan anggota relawan Jepang dan orang Indonesia Osoji Club. Penelitian ini mengambil setting di dua kota, yaitu Jakarta dan Medan.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa komunitas diaspora Jepang di Jakarta dan Medan berkontribusi bagi kedua pihak. Bagi diaspora Jepang, mereka mendapatkan keuntungan dari komunitas ini berupa informasi dan ldquo;perasaan aman rdquo; selain kotribusi nyata terhadap lingkungan sekitar mereka menjadi lebih bersih. Dan bagi keduanya, baik anggota relawan Jepang maupun Indonesia yang tertarik dengan kebudayaan Jepang, komunitas ini menjadi forum untuk komunikasi lintas budaya. Konsep kepercayaan memiliki peran penting terhadap perkembangan jaringan Osoji Club yang pada awalnya dibentuk di Jakarta dan meluas ke beberapa kota besar lainnya. Kepercayaan juga memainkan peran dalam kerja sama komunitas Osoji Club dengan beberapa perusahaan Jepang melalui acara-acara festival kebudayaan Jepang di Jakarta dan Medan.Kata kunci: Diaspora Jepang, Osoji Club, kepercayaan, intercultural communication, jaringan
ABSTRACTThis research discusses on the role of Osoji Club, the Japan environmental community which its members not only for its Japanese but also Indonesian. The focus of this paper is on how trust among members, playing the important role in the development of Osoji Club community network. According Fukuyama 1995 , the willingness to trust foreigners encourages community involvement in community building, and helps to overcome the dilemma of collective action. Ethnic differences are assumed to produce high levels of in group confidence, but little or no trust to out group.This research used qualitative method by doing the data collection techniques through participant observation in some of Osoji Club activities, as well as in depth interviews with key informant i.e. chairman and Japanese and Indonesian volunteer member of Osoji Club. The research setting areas are in two big cities, Jakarta and Medan.The results showed that this Japanese diaspora community in Jakarta and Medan, contributed for both side. For Japanese diaspora, they get the benefit from community such as information and lsquo feeling more safety rsquo beside the real contribution on environment their present place become cleaner. And for both Japan and Indonesian member who interested in Japanese culture, this community becomes a forum for intercultural communication. Members from a different cultural background can share knowledge on each other 39 s culture and apply it in everyday life. The concept of trust have significant role to the development of the Osoji Club network which was originally established in Jakarta and extended to several other big cities. Trust also play a part in cooperation of Osoji Club with several Japanese companies in major events such as the Japanese cultural festival in Jakarta and Medan.Keyword Japan Diaspora, Osoji Club, trust, intercultural communication, network
