Pengelasan logam yang berbeda atau Dissimilar Metal Welding (DMW) adalah proses yang unik dan kompleks karena di setiap zona di daerah pengelasan logam yang berbeda memiliki struktur dan karakteristik yang unik. Struktur yang terbentuk pada masing-masing zona memiliki efek yang signifikan pada sifat-sifat logam las. Dalam penelitian ini, tujuan utamanya adalah untuk menyelidiki evolusi struktur mikro dan mode distribusi sifat mekanik dari pengelasan pelat baja HY80 dan baja tahan karat tipe dupleks 2205 yang dilas dengan menggunakan las manual Shielded Metal Arc Weld (SMAW). Struktur mikro dari setiap zona logam las diamati. Pelat spesimen dilas dengan menggunakan logam pengisi AWS A5.22 DW 309L (E309L) dan AWS A5.22 DW2209 (E2209). Ditemukan bahwa elektroda AWS A5.22 DW 309L memberikan keseimbangan antara fase austenit dan ferit di zona logam inti las yang berbeda dari sambungan baja Dupleks SS2205 dan HY80. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa distribusi kekerasan dari sambungan yang berbeda dari proses pengelasan ini dipengaruhi oleh evolusi struktur mikro, di mana kekerasan tertinggi diperoleh pada daerah HAZ. Nilai puncak kekerasan pada daerah HAZ logam dasar HY 80 ditemukan di daerah dekat garis fusi. Struktur mikro logam induk baja Dupleks SS 2205 menunjukkan butiran halus dengan struktur ferit dan austenit, dimana ferit ditunjukan dengan warna gelap dan austenit dengan warna terang. Pada bagian tertentu ditemukan sejumlah inklusi terak sebagai bintik hitam. Struktur mikro dari logam las menunjukkan butiran kasar austenit bersama dengan beberapa inklusi terak sebagai bintik hitam. Zona yang terkena panas dari pelat baja HY80 menunjukkan butiran kasar austenit dan ferit, sedangkan zona yang terkena pan as dari DSS 2205 menunjukkan garis fusi tipis dengan butiran kasar ferit sebagai zona gelap dan butiran kasar austenit sebagai zona terang. Tingkat variasi dalam kandungan ferit logam las juga diamati. Secara keseluruhan hasil pengelasan dengan menggunakan elektroda E 2209.

Dissimilar Metal Welding (DMW) is a unique and complex process because in each zone in different metal welding areas it has unique structure and characteristics. The structure formed in each zone has a significant effect on the properties of weld metal. In this study, the main objective was to investigate the evolution of microstructure and mechanical distribution modes of welding of HY80 steel plates and duplex 2205 stainless steel welded using Shielded Metal Arc Weld (SMAW) manual welding. The microstructure of each weld metal zone is observed. The specimen plate is welded using AWS A5.22 DW 309L and AWS A5.22 DW 2209 filler metal. It was found that AWS A5.22 DW 309L electrodes provide a balance between the austenite and ferrite phases in the weld metal zone which is different from the DSS and HY80 steel connections. The results show that the hardness distribution of the joints is different from this welding process, where the highest hardness is obtained in the HAZ region. Value of peak hardness in the HAZ region of base metal HY 80 is found in the area near the fusion line. The microstructure of base metal DSS 2205 shows fine grains with ferrite structures, with dark colors and bright austenites. In certain parts a number of inclusions of slag are found as black spots. The microstructure of the weld metal shows austenite coarse grains along with some inclusions of slag as black spots. The heat-affected zone of the HY80 steel plate shows coarse austenite and ferrite grains, while the heat-affected zone of DSS 2205 shows a thin fusion line with coarse grains of ferrite as a dark zone and coarse austenitic grains as a bright zone. There is a observed degree of variation in weld metal ferrite content.
