Pasca Orde Baru, menjelang dan awal dekade tahun 2000-an, bermunculan aktor-aktor sastra muda. Di antara mereka ada yang berhasil memperoleh legitimasi spesifik, tetapi tidak sedikit pula yang gagal. Eka Kurniawan adalah aktor sastra muda yang muncul di awal dekade 2000-an dan kini telah memperoleh legitimasi spesifik. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis proses aktor sastra muda Eka Kurniawan mencapai legitimasi spesifik hingga menduduki posisi terkonsekrasi di arena sastra Indonesia kontemporer. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, dengan menggunakan kerangka konsep Arena Produksi Kultural dari Pierre Bourdieu. Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan sebelum masuk ke arena sastra Indonesia kontemporer, Eka Kurniawan memiliki habitus dan kapital yang tidak menyimpang dengan arena sehingga memampukan aktor untuk bertahan dan beradaptasi dalam arena. Eka melakukan praktik dan strategi yang mendukung penambahan atau produksi kapital yang belum ia miliki saat telah menghuni arena sastra. Kepemilikan kapital yang makin terakumulasi (sosial, kultural dan simbolik) di arena membawa Eka kepada posisi sebagai aktor sastra yang berhasil mencapai pengakuan dari aktor-aktor sastra legitim (legitimasi spesifik) di arena sastra Indonesia kontemporer hingga menduduki derajat posisi yang berbeda dari saat pertama kali ia masuk ke arena sastra.

After the fall of New Order Regime, before and early decades of the 2000s, young literary actors emerged. Some of them found the succeeded in obtaining specific legitimacy, but not a few have failed. Eka Kurniawan is a young literary actor who emerged in the early 2000s and gained that specific legitimacy. This study aims to analyze the process of young literary actor Eka Kurniawan achieving specific legitimacy to take a legitimate position in contemporary Indonesian literary field. This study uses qualitative research method and using the framework of the cultural production arena concept from Pierre Bourdieu as the base of analysis.

This research finding shows that before entering contemporary Indonesian literary field, Eka Kurniawan had a habitus and capital that did not diverge from the field thus it enabled the actors to survive and adapt to the field. Eka performed a practice and strategy that support the capital addition or production that he did not possess when he has dwelled in the literary field. The increasing of capital ownership (social, cultural and symbolic) in the arena has been brought Eka to become literary actor who succeeded in achieving recognition from legitimate literary actors (specific legitimacy) in the arena of contemporary Indonesian literature to occupy the different degrees of position comparing with first time he entered the literary field.
