ABSTRAKThe roles, approaches and methods of archiving in both places are different as I elaborate in this essay. However, one fundamental cause is the same, that is the shared belief that is the importance of art archiving and how it is needed in showing the relations between art practice and the challenges of society in this region. My work straddles between two modes of approach and my belief is that both can go together and complement each other, to find the place for the art archives and provideresources for spaces of debates in building art history and its relevance in the development of contemporary society, Southeast Asia and the world.
