 Abstract

ABSTRACT
The status of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) as an observer in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) symbolizes international recognition from Melanesian countries. Based on a literature review, not much research has tried to explore Indonesia's response to the internationalization of the West Papua conflict, more specifically from an Indonesian perspective. This study aims to analyze the process of secession and prevention of recognition of West Papuan entities in the international sphere by Indonesia. To analyze this phenomenon, the author uses the concept of counter-separation & recognition whose approach is derived from the perspective of liberalism. This research found that persistence in protecting its national integrity and the amount of diplomacy undertaken is the key to the lack of international support given to West Papuan entities. In addition, the lack of support from major power countries increases the chances of success for Indonesia in preventing international recognition of de facto entities.
