Penelitian ini mengkaji kompleksitas pengalaman perempuan Batak Toba terkait penerapan falsafah hidup Hagabeon dan otonomi atas tubuhnya pada perkawinan yang belum memiliki anak laki-laki. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan tipe studi kasus. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi terhadap 6 (enam) subjek utama. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Pierre Bourdieu tentang habitus dan doxa, teori Kate Millet tentang Sexual Politics serta teori Eksistensialis Simone De Beauvoir. Hasil analisis menunjukkan pengetahuan terkait dengan falsafah hidup subjek penelitian tidak menunjukkan perbedaan berarti, namun pemaknaan pada masing-masing subjek membuat kondisi tersebut menjadi berbeda. Terkait pengalaman subjek penelitian tentang kontrol atas fungsi reproduksi, subjek penelitian menjelaskan bahwa sudah tidak lagi terobsesi memiliki anak yang banyak. Faktor hidup merantau, kesehatan dan ekonomi menjadi latar belakangnya. Namun, keinginan untuk memiliki anak laki-laki tetap menjadi tujuan mereka. Temuan memperlihatkan subjek penelitian berada pada kondisi paradoks. Mereka menjadi perempuan yang memiliki kesadaran tentang otonomi tubuhnya, dengan bernegosiasi terkait jumlah anak yang jauh lebih sedikit dibanding dengan konsep awal Hagabeon. Di sisi lain mereka tetap menginginkan anak laki-laki sebagai gambaran idealisasi mereka untuk mewujudkan status sebagai perempuan sempurna (Gabe) dalam perspektif budaya Batak Toba, yang dapat dicapai perempuan Batak Toba dengan memiliki banyak anak dan memiliki anak laki-laki sebagai penerus marga.

This study examines the complexity of the experience Batak Toba women that related to the application of Hagabeon`s life philosophy and autonomy over his body in Batak Toba marriages that do not yet have sons. This study used a qualitative approach with case study where data was obtained through in-depth interviews and observations of 6 (six) main subjects. The author used Pierre Bourdieu's of habitus and doxa, Kate Millet`s of Sexual Politics and the Existentialist of Simone De Beauvoir theories. All of these theories basically complement each other and can further explain the problems experienced by the subject of research. The results of the analysis show that the knowledge which is held in relation to the life of philosophy by the research subjects did not show significant differences but the meaning of each subject made the condition different. Regarding to the experience of the subjects about control over reproductive functions, the subjects explained that they were no longer obsessed with having children in large numbers. Life, health and economic factors are the background. Nevertheless, the desire to have sons remains their goal. The findings of this research show that the subject of the study is a paradoxical condition. On the other hand, they become women who have an awareness of their bodies autonomy with negotiate the number of the children far less than the ideal number in the initial concept of Hagabeon. However, on the other hand they still want son who are a picture of idealization for them to realize their status as perfect women (Gabe) in the perspective of Batak Toba culture which can be achieved by Batak Toba women in having many children and having son as successor to the clan.
