 Abstract

The effectiveness of using condoms and lubricants separately during anal sex on the incidence of syphilis infection is well known, but research is still rare to see the combined effect of the use of condoms and lubricants in causing syphilis. This study aims to determine the relationship between condom use and additional lubrication with syphilis infection among key waria populations. This study used a cross-sectional design using data from Integrated Biological and Behavior Survey (STBP) the Indonesian Ministry of Healths in 2015. The samples analyzed in this study amounted to 759 after fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Multivariate analysis using the cox regression test. The results showed that the proportion of syphilis infection was 18.05%. Multivariate analysis showed that the use of condoms and additional lubricants was associated with the incidence of syphilis infection (PR = 1.76 95% CI = 0.83-3.76), Male to female transgender who did not use condoms and did not use additional lubricants had a risk of 1.76 times to experience syphilis . It is necessary to continue campaigning on the importance of using condoms and additional water-based lubricants during anal sex to male to female transgender and their customers to reduce the incidence of syphilis infections.
