ABSTRAKLibrarians build their librarianship concept based on self understanding of interpretation of the reality from their professional activities in the workplace. This research is very important as the study of a concept of librarian profession from CPTA is limited in Indonesia. Data Collection Method. The research method used is qualitative with phenomenology approach. Five librarians participated in the IPDN Library. Results and Discussions. The results show the three meanings of librarian were as a valuable profession, as a promising profession and as an information service provider. The self-concept found in this study has been seen from three aspects: psychological aspects include a sense of confusion, a sense of comfort, a sense of pride and professional. Further, the social aspects involve being underestimated, harmonious relationships, respecting each other, creating intense competition and having good relationship. Physical aspects include being clean and neat, smart, versatile, attractive as a modern librarian. The motivation to become a librarian is salary and other incomes, competition, and opportunity to improve. Conclusions. The paper shows that librarians interpret themselves as a profession that has a value from the material perspective because it has benefits and allowances related to their work performance. Further research is needed to study a comparison between librarians formal education and librarians from CPTA related to their motivation.
