Artikel ini membahas tubuh perempuan dalam konteks kekerasan dan trauma dalans novel A Commencement Erait la Mer karya Maissa Bey. Novel mi menceritakan seorang perempuan berusia 18 tahun, Nadia, yang mencintai kebebasan, cinta, dan laut Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap jejak-jejak trauma dan kekerasan yang diderita oleh Nadia, tokoh utama novel ini. Metode yang digunakan adalah kajian naratologi Gérard Genette, analisis teks naratif Roland Barthes; dan konsep ecriture féminine Hélene Cixous. Struktur naratif teks memperlihatkan alur cerita digerakkan oleh keinginan Nadia untuk mengekspresikan diri dan tubuhnya keluar dari ruang-ruang tradisional, dan hambatan utama yang dihadapinya, baik dari lingkungan keluarga, maupun lingkungan sosialnya. Narator meminjam fokalisasi Nadia dalam menceritakan keinginan, mimpi, perasaan, dan ketakutan Nadia menghadapi dunia yang seperti tidak berpihak pada perempuan. Selanjutnya konsep écriture feminine mengungkap bagaimana Maissa Bey menuliskan tubuh-tubuh perempuan yang bercerita tentang kekerasan dan trauma yang dialaminya. Hasil analisis pada akhirnya memperkuat fakta bahwa tubuh perempuan masih menjadi ruang yang direpresi, baik oleh sejarah kekerasan di Aljazair, maupun dominasi wacana patriarki dan doktrin agama.

This article discusses women's freedom, space, and body in the novel Au Commencement Etait la Mer by Maissa Bey. This novel tells the story of an 18-year-old woman, Nadia, who loves freedom, love, and the sea. This article aims to uncover traces of trauma and violence suffered by Nadia. The method used is the study of the narration of Gérard Genette, the analysis of the narrative text of Roland Barthes, and the concept of écriture feminine of Hélène Cixous. The narrative structure of the text shows the storyline driven by Nadia's desire to express herself and her body out of traditional spaces, and the main obstacles she faces, both from her family and social environment. The Narrator borrow's Nadia's focalisation in telling her wishes, dreams, feelings, and fears to face a world that is not in favor of women. Furthermore, the concept of écriture feminine reveals how Maissa Bey wrote the bodies of women who talked about the violence and trauma they experienced. The results of the analysis ultimately reinforce the fact that women's bodies are still a repressed space, both by the history of violence in Algeria, as well as the dominance of patriarchal discourse and religious doctrine.
