ABSTRAKSkripsi ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan peran jaringan sosial dalam komunitas Gamelan sebagai strategi upgrading industri kreatif pengembang game lokal di Provinsi Yogyakarta menuju rantai nilai global. Kajian mengenai strategi upgrading industri terdahulu menyatakan bahwa sebuah industri melakukan strategi dengan pengelolaan organisasi internal industri, peningkatan keterampilan pekerja, peran institusi negara serta jaringan bisnis dengan analisis yang terpisah. Berbeda dengan studi sebelumnya, skripsi ini berargumen bahwa strategi yang dilakukan oleh industri pengembang game lokal di Yogyakarta untuk melakukan upgrading adalah melalui peran jaringan sosial para pelaku industri game yang terjalin melalui Komunitas Gamelan, yakni dengan penekanan kerjasama antar aktor sehingga terbentuk struktur sosial dan inovasi dalam iklim industri game yang mampu mendorong perusahaan untuk melakukan upgrading. Kajian ini menggunakan kerangka teori jaringan sosial oleh Granovetter dengan konteks dimensi upgrading dalam rantai nilai global oleh Gereffi. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dan Social Network Analysis (SNA) dengan studi kasus komunitas Gamelan di Yogyakarta. Temuan dalam penelitian ini adalah jaringan sosial dalam Komunitas Gamelan adalah kuat berdasarkan hasil Social Network Analysis. Hal tersebut ditunjukkan melalui tiga aktor kunci yang menduduki posisi weak ties dan structural holes secara bersamaan dengan internalisasi nilai pasedhuluran yang kuat. Melalui jaringan sosial tersebut anggota Komunitas Gamelan mampu berpartisipasi menuju Rantai Nilai Global pada tingkat entry the value chain.

ABSTRACT

This thesis aims to explain the role of social networks in the Gamelan Community as a strategy for upgrading the creative industry of local game developers in Yogyakarta Province towards the global value chain. The previous studies of industry upgrading strategies states that an industry carries out strategies with the management of the industry's internal organization, improvement of workers' skills, the role of state institutions and business networks with a separate analysis. Different with the previous studies, this thesis argues that the strategy undertaken by the local game developer industry in Yogyakarta to carry out upgrading is through the role of social networks of the game industry actors who are intertwined through the Gamelan Community, namely by emphasizing cooperation between actors so that social structures and innovation are formed in game industry climate that is able to encourage companies to upgrade. This study uses the social network theory framework by Granovetter with the context of the upgrading dimension in the global value chain by Gereffi. The methods used is a qualitative approach and Social Network Analysis (SNA) with a case study of the Gamelan community in Yogyakarta. The findings in this study are the social networks in the Gamelan Community are strong based on the results of the Social Network Analysis. This is demonstrated by three key actors who occupy the weak ties and structural holes positions simultaneously with the internalization of a strong value of Pasedhuluran. Through this social network Gamelan Community members are able to participate towards the Global Value Chain at the entry-value chain level.
