ABSTRACTAudience effect is a phenomenon where the behavior and performance level of a person is affected due to the presence of an audience or observer. Performance tends to improve when doing an easy or simple task, while doing a complex or difficult task often lowers performance We aim to see if this affect extends to a virtual audience. The participants (N=30) where divided equally into one of three conditions. They are the live audience condition, the virtual audience condition, and the no audience condition. The virtual audience used a camera and laptop to simulate a live stream. We propose three hypotheses for our results. First is that the live audience condition will provide the greatest social facilitation, second is that the virtual audience condition will also provide social facilitation but not to the extent of a live audience, and last is that the no audience condition will create the weakest social facilitation. Our findings revealed that no significant social facilitation occurred in any of the three conditions. This suggest further research with a more powerful live and virtual audience condition, as well including other variables such as competition and performance evaluation.
