 Abstract

Overfishing has been one of the biggest causes of the decrease of global sea life. Australia, being surrounded by the pacific and the Indian ocean, has tried to tackle overfishing using a catch-share system called quota-managed fisheries. Catch-share system is a fishing system which allows fishers to buy shares in a specific location, these shares then allows them to fish a specific amount of fish each day. However, in its execution, many of its processes are still using manual paperwork, causing inefficiency. Not to mention, recreational fishers are not subjected to the leading to the system, causing many illegal and unregulated fishing. This research aims to manage and reduce overfishing in Queensland through Catch-Share System application design. The literature study was conducted to determine the current catch-share system, which was used as the basis of a system design to visualize the system that would be used in the application. Then, the sprint method was used to conduct the prototyping, which involves 5 comprehensive user interviews. The final result of this research was a comprehensive & user-tested catch-share system application that can be used by both commercial and recreational fishers.
