Film merupakan salah satu media yang dapat menyampaikan pesan atau merepresentasikan sesuatu. Film horor menjadi film yang menampilkan hal-hal yang ditakuti oleh manusia yang salah satunya yaitu makhluk supernatural atau gaib. Dalam mayarakat Uni Emirat Arab, jin dikenal sebagai makhluk supernatural atau gaib yang memiliki kekuatan dan banyak cerita tersendiri. Kemunculan film Djinn (2013) buatan Uni Emirat Arab menjadi salah satu upaya pereprsentasian dari sosok jin berdasarkan kepercayaan maupun cerita yang ada di masyarakat Uni Emirat Arab. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu elaborasi yang didukung dengan teori representasi dari John Fiske yang terdiri dari tiga level kode yaitu realitas, representasi, dan ideologi. Tujuannya adalah untuk menampilkan bagaimana representasi jin yang ada di dalam film serta alasan pemberian judul Djinn pada film tersebut. Hasil tulisan ini menunjukkan bahwa perepresentasian sosok jin yang ada di dalam film dibuat berdasarkan kepercayaan maupun urband legend atau cerita yang ada di masyarakat Uni Emirat Arab, demikian pula penamaan Djinn dalam judul yang sesuai berdasarkan dengan alur cerita yang ada di dalam film dan kepercayaan agama Islam terhadap jin selaku agama mayoritas di Uni Emirat Arab.

Film is one of the media that can convey a message or represent something. Horror films are films that display things that are feared by humans, one of which is supernatural or supernatural beings. In the United Arab Emirates society, jinn are known as supernatural or supernatural beings who have powers and many stories of their own. The appearance of the film Djinn (2013) made by the United Arab Emirates is one of the efforts to represent the figure of a genie based on beliefs and stories that exist in the people of the United Arab Emirates. The method used in this research is elaboration which is supported by the representation theory of John Fiske which consists of three levels of code, namely reality, representation, and ideology. The aim is to show how the representation of the genie in the film and the reason for giving the title Djinn to the film. The results of this paper indicate that the representation of the genie figure in the film is made based on beliefs or urban legends or stories that exist in the people of the United Arab Emirates, as well as the naming of Djinn in the appropriate title based on the storyline in the film and Islamic religious beliefs. against the jinn as the majority religion in the United Arab Emirates.
