Pedofilia menjadi salah satu permasalahan yang beberapa kali melibatkan institusi gereja, baik di Prancis maupun di beberapa belahan dunia yang lain. Salah satu film yang mengangkat permasalahan tersebut adalah film La ville dont le prince est un enfant yang memperlihatkan seorang pastor yang memiliki konflik batin di dalam dirinya berkaitan dengan masalah seksualitas. Artikel ini akan mengungkap permasalahan seksualitas dalam institusi gereja melalui pergulatan Pradts sebagai tokoh utama. Penelitian ini akan menggunakan metode kualitatif kajian film dengan menganalisis unsur naratif dan sinematografis film dan konsep psikoanalisis Freud tentang struktur kepribadian manusia dan mekanisme pertahanan diri. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa institusi gereja sebagai superego berperan sangat penting terhadap tindakan dan seksualitas para tokoh. Superego yang sangat dominan berhasil membuat Pradts menjalankan mekanisme pertahanan dirinya dengan baik, sehingga kecemasan dan seluruh ancaman tetap berada di luar kesadarannya.

Pedophilia is one of the problems that has involved church institutions several times, both in France and in several other parts of the world. One of the films that raises this issue is La ville dont le prince est un enfant which shows a priest who has an inner conflict within himself related to sexuality issues. This article will reveal the problem of sexuality in church institutions through the struggles of Pradts as the main character. This research will use a qualitative method of film study by analyzing the narrative and cinematographic elements of the film and Freudian psychoanalysis concepts which consists of the structure of the human personality and self-defense mechanisms. The results show that the church institution as the superego plays a very important role in the actions and sexuality of the characters. The very dominant superego managed to make Pradts run his defense mechanism well, so that anxiety and all threats remained outside of his consciousness.
