Dinamika kepariwisataan Labuan Bajo telah menghasilkan perkembangan perkotaan Labuan Bajo menjadi kota wisata. Fenomena ini disebut dengan urbanisasi pariwisata, yaitu perkembangan kota Labuan Bajo untuk tujuan produksi, penjualan, serta konsumsi barang dan jasa yang memberikan kesenangan bagi wisatawan atau pengunjung. Secara spasial, fenomena ini terlihat pada perkembangan kawasan pesisirnya sebagai pusat aktivitas komersial yang menunjang kebutuhan konsumsi wisatawan atau pengunjung. Dalam perspektif urbanisasi pariwisata, muncul bentuk ruang konsumsi pada kawasan tersebut. Namun, jauh sebelum menjadi pusat kegiatan komersial pariwisata, kawasan pesisir telah manjadi tempat tinggal bagi masyarakat setempat. Karena itu, perkembangan kawasan pesisir ini turut mengancam posisi masyarakat setempat. Dengan menggunakan model studi kasus instrumental dalam pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini hendak membangun penjelasan tentang pembentukan ruang konsumsi di kawasan pesisir kota Labuan Bajo yang mengancam eksistensi masyarakat setempat. Penelitian ini menunjukkan, pembentukan ruang konsumsi pada kawasan pesisir kota Labuan Bajo menjadi bagian dari produksi ruang kapitalistik. Melalui sentralisasi kapital dan konfigurasi spasial oleh negara dan swasta/privat, terjadi serangkaian abstraksi yang membentuk ruang konsumsi sebagai ruang sosial baru di kawasan pesisir kota Labuan Bajo. Signifikannya penggunaan kawasan pesisir sebagai pusat aktivitas komersial pariwisata turut menghasilkan dominasi ruang konsumsi yang diisi oleh pemilik modal, tenaga kerja, dan wisatawan atau pengunjung sebagai kelompok sosial baru di kawasan tersebut. Dominasi tersebut mengancam eksistensi masyarakat setempat melalui reduksi ruang sosial masyarakat setempat sebagai kelompok sosial lama. Munculnya fenomena perpindahan langsung maupun tekanan perpindahan mengindikasikan ancaman eksistensi masyarakat setempat karena pembentukan ruang konsumsi di kawasan pesisir kota Labuan Bajo.

Labuan Bajo tourism has resulted in the urban development of Labuan Bajo into a tourist city. This phenomenon is called tourism urbanization, namely the development of the city of Labuan Bajo for the purpose of producing, selling, and consuming goods and services that provide pleasure for tourists or visitors. Spatially, this phenomenon can be seen in the development of the coastal area as a center of commercial activity that supports the consumption needs of tourists or visitors. In the perspective of tourism urbanization, a form of consumption space appears in the area. However, long before becoming the center of commercial tourism activities, the coastal area has become a place of residence for the local community. Therefore, the development of this coastal area also threatens the position of the local community. By using an instrumental case study model in a qualitative approach, this study aims to develop an explanation of the formation of consumption space in the coastal area of Labuan Bajo city which threatens the existence of the local community. This study shows that the formation of consumption space in the coastal area of the city of Labuan Bajo is part of the production of capitalistic space. Through the centralization of capital and spatial configuration by the state and the private sector, a series of abstractions occur that form the consumption space as a new social space in the coastal area of Labuan Bajo city. The significance of the use of coastal areas as centers of tourism commercial activity also results in the dominance of consumption space filled by owners of capital, labor, and tourists or visitors as new social groups in the area. This domination threatens the existence of the local community through the reduction of the local community's social space as an old social group. The emergence of the phenomenon of direct displacement and displacement pressure indicates a threat to the existence of the local community due to the formation of consumption space in the coastal area of Labuan Bajo city.
