Dalam waktu dimana industri perfilman sudah menjadi bagian penting dari budaya populer, ada baiknya bila kita tidak meremehkan pentingnya media tersebut, yang sudah tertanam di kesadaran umum. Dengan menganalisa tema-tema yang berulang di film karya Christopher Nolan, karya ini bermaksud menyelidiki apabila tema dan pesan sebuah film terpancar pada penonton yang melihatnya, dan mungkin melihat seberapa besar pengaruhnya. Penelitian akan dilakukan melalui analisis terhadap resensi-resensi dari beberapa film Nolan dan melihat bila tema yang dibawakan konsisten dalam reaksi penonton. Dari temuan dan analisis, telah ditemukan data yang bisa dianggap suportif terhadap pandangan ini, konsisten dengan konsep-konsep yang diterangkan dalam teori paradigma naratif Robert Fisher, dan bagaimana kiasan sebuah film, dalam peranya sebagai sebuah naratif komunikasi, diterima oleh penonton.

In a time where the film industry is such a cornerstone of pop culture, we must not underestimate the socio-cultural significance of said media being so entrenched in the public consciousness. By analysing recurring themes in the works of film director Christopher Nolan, this paper aims to find out if a film’s themes and messages reached the audience that watches them, and perhaps even find to what degree they are influenced by it. Determining this will be done by collecting and analysing reviews of a selection of Nolan’s movies and noting if the themes Nolan intended were consistent or not in audience reactions. From the findings and analysis, there has been found data with possible supportive interpretations consistent with ideas outlined in Robert Fisher’s Narrative paradigm and how the conventions of a movie may affect how a film, in its role as a communicative narrative, is received.
