Walt Disney Studios have produced movies after movies that represent cultures and various human experiences. Death and grief are the most common human experience that Disney movies often use in their plots. There has been a shift in how the bereavement models are represented in their movies. This paper examines the differences of grief models between the movies Coco (2017) and Onward (2020). The movies were chosen due to their explicit focus on grief and the death of family members. The findings of the textual analysis method show that the movies have striking contrasts of how contemporary methods are manifested in their characters. Coco (2017) and Onward (2020). use different models of grief and how they are continued after conflicts are resolved. This paper also finds that mythical creatures are used as symbols of grief and result in different reactions from the characters. The evidence showed in this article suggests that Onward (2020) does not embrace the shift of contemporary bereavement models used by earlier movies in the modern Disney era.
