 Abstract

Pleural effusion is a condition in which there is an accumulation of fluid between the parietal and visceral spaces, also known as the pleural cavity. This can occur as a result of diseases of the surrounding parenchyma such as infection, malignancy or inflammatory conditions. Patients with pleural effusion experience symptoms of shortness of breath, heaviness in the chest, pleuritic pain due to sharp and localized pleural irritation, especially during productive and non-productive coughs. This scientific work aims to analyze the effect of the semi-Fowler position and deep breathing exercise as a nursing intervention in overcoming the problem of ineffective breathing patterns. The method used is a case report that has been managed for 4 days on individual patients diagnosed with pleural effusion and currently undergoing treatment in the upper Dahlia room at a central general hospital in Jakarta. The results show that patients can accept the intervention given, do it well and routinely, so that they can feel a positive effect, namely more comfortable breath and less shortness of breath.
