In the field of psychonarratology, fictional character is becoming a common topic of discussion. Fictional characters are often found to be extremely engaging and convincing in the readers’ mind that it forms a parasocial relationship between the readers and the character. Based on existing literature studies, fiction writing experience, assumed professional category, intrinsic motivation, and openness to experience were indicated to influence the expertise to write fictional character. This study was conducted in sample groups of professional writers, hobbyist writers, and non-writers aged between 18-35 years old in Indonesia. Data were collected online using an intrinsic motivation questionnaire and IPIP-BMF-25 for participants, and a fictional characters assessment form as reference for raters. Through ANOVA analysis and multiple mediation model testing, it was found that (1) the openness to experience trait had an influence on the intrinsic motivation of writing fiction, (2) there was no effect of intrinsic motivation on the length of writing experience, (3) the length of writing experience was found to have a negative relationship with skills to describe fictional characters.
