Perpustakaan BPTP-Sumbar memberikan layanan informasi Iptek Pertanian terutama kepada peneliti di lingkungan BPTP-Sumbar. Untuk mengetahui pemanfaatan perpustakaan dan faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan pemanfaatan perpustakaan, maka penelitian yang bersifat studi kasus ini dilakukan.Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan survei. Penelitian ini membahas empat variabel utama yakni: karakteristik peneliti; persepsi peneliti terhadap koleksi, fasilitas ftsik, SDM, dan teknologi informasi, kebutuhan infonnasi; dan pemanfaatan koleksi perpustakaan. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner yang terlebih dahulu diujicobakan kepada 10 responden di luar sampel. Disamping itu digunakan juga wawancara sebagai alat pengumpulan data tambahan. Sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode senses sehingga seluruh peneliti BPTP-Sumbar yang mempunyai jabatan fungsional yaitu sebanyak 59 (lima puluh Sembilan) dijadikan sampel.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Meskipun responden berumur umumnya memiliki masa kerja lebih besar dari 21 tahun atau Ajun Peneliti, namun jumlah tulisan ilmiah rata-rata sebanyak 29 judul. Rata-rata peneliti BPTPSumbar hanya mampu menulis 2 judul/tahun.2) Persepsi peneliti terhadap kemutakhiran, kesesuaian, keragaman, jumlah dan kualitas koleksi perpustakaan BPTP-Sumbar adalah cukup baik. Persepsi peneliti terhadap fasilitas fisik cukup memadai. Jumlah dan pendidikan petugas perpustakaan menurut penilaian peneliti kurang memadai, namun layanan yang diberikan oleh petugas perpustakaan cukup baik, dan informasi yang diberikan cukup tepat. Tetapi persepsi peneliti terhadap teknologi informasi kurang baik.3) Para peneliti pada umumya membutuhkan informasi yang diperlukan untuk penyusunan RPTP, membuat laporan penelitian, dan membuat karya tulis ilmiah.4) Koleksi perpustakaan B PTP-S u mb ar yang lebih banyak digunakan oleh penelitilresponden adalah koleksi jurnal dan buku.5) Ada hubungan antara karakteristik peneliti yang terdiri jabatan fungsional dan jumlah tulisan ilmiah dengan persepsi peneliti terhadap teknologi informasi.6) Ada hubungan antara karakteristik peneliti yang terdiri dari pendidikan formal, pengalaman kerja, jabatan fungsional dan jumlah tulisan ilmiah dengan kebutuhan informasi.7) Ada hubungan antara karakteristik peneliti aumlah tulisan ilmiah dengan pemanfaatan koleksi tercetak dan pendidikan formal dengan pemanfaatan koleksi elektronik.8) Tidak ada hubungan antara persepsi peneliti dengan kebutuhan informasi dan pemanfaatan koleksi perpustakaaan BPTP-Sumbar.9) Ada hubungan yang sangat nyata antara kebutuhan informasi peneliti dengan pemanfaatan koleksi elektronis perpustakaan BPTP-Sumbar.10) Ada hubungan antara kebutuhan informasi dengan pemanfaatan perpustakaan.

The Factors wich have Correlation with Use of Library by Researchers: a case study of West Sumatra Assessment Institute for Agricultural Technology The library of BPTP- Sumbar provides Agricultural technology information services mainly for researchers within BPTP-Sumbar in order to support their research and to improve their writing skills. This research was aimed to find out the advantages of using library collections and some factors connected to the use of BPTP's library collection.

The type of this research was a quantitative research using survey as an approach. It discussed about four main variables namely: characteristic of researcher; perception of researcher about the collections; facilities, HRD and library information technology; the information need; and the use of library collections. Using questionnaire that had been pretested to 10 respondents out of the samples collected data. Interview was also conducted as a tool of collecting the additional data. The samples of this research used census method, the whole population of BPTP's researchers (59 researchers) were respondents.

The result of this research: were the average of respondents age was 48 years and most of them have working period more than 21 years, so that their functional position level were ajun researchers. It means that the researchers had only written the paper 2 titles/year at average. The perception of researchers concerning the variety, quantity, quality and latest library collections of BPTP -Sumbar was relatively adequate. The physical facilities were good enough but the number and the educational background of the librarians still needed an improvement. The service and information given by the librarians to the researchers were relatively satisfying. The researchers noticed that information technology was not really adequate. Generally the researchers needed the information to work on RPTP, to write report of research and to compose scientific papers. The Library collections of BPTP-Sumbar that mainly used by researcher/respondent were journals and books. There was a correlation between the researcher characteristics such as formal education, working experience, functional position as well as the number of scientific papers they wrote and the information needs. There was also a correlation between the number of scientific paper and the use of library printed collections and correlation between formal education and the use of electric library collection. There is no correlation between the researcher's perception and information needs and the use of library collections of BPTP-Sumbar. Anyway, there is a correlation between the researcher information needs and the use of electronic library collections of BPTP-Sumbar.
