Tujuan pembangunan kesehatan adalah meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia serta kesejahteraen keluarga dan masyarakat pada umumnya. Tujuan tersebut akan segera tercapai bila derajat kesehatan masyarakat meningkat. Derajat kesehatan masyarakat Kabupaten Ciamis ternyata masih belum baik. Permasalahan yang dihadapi di Kabupaten DT II Ciamis umumnya, termasuk di wilayah Puskesmas Gardujaya dan Puskesmas Mulyasari adalah prosentase hasil cakupan pertolongan persalinan oleh paraji masih lebih tinggi daripada cakupan pertolongan persalinan oleh tenaga kesehatan/bidan. Disisi lain penempatan bidan desa secara bertahap telah dilaksanakan sejak tahun 1991 sampai dengan 1996, dan telah terisi 305 desa dan 360 desa yang ada di Kabupaten DT II Ciamis. Tujuan penelitian untuk memperoleh informasi tentang faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan penggunaan penolong persalinan. Desain penelitian adalah 'cross sectional' dengan pendekatan metode penelitian deskriptif analitik. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh ibu meneteki dengan anak terkecil berusia kurang dari satu tahun, yang berada di wilayah Puskesmas Gardujaya dan Puskesmas Mulyasari sebanyak 460 orang. Dalam penelitian Ini tidak dilakukan pengambilan sampel, karena seluruh populasi dijadikan obyek penelitian. Dari hasil analisa untvariat diketahui bahwa sebagian besar responden ditolong oleh paraji ( 73,3 % ) dan berusia 20 - 30 tahun (63 % ). Sebanyak 65,4 % responden berpendidikan tamat SD dan 89,5 % merupakan ibu rumah tangga. Dilihat dari pendapatan keluarga jumlah responden dengan tingkat pendapatan tinggi sebanyak 52,6 % dan tingkat pendapatan rendah sebanyak 47,4 %. Sedangkan jarak rumah ibu dengan tempat pelayanan (rumah bidan) sebagian besar responden menyatakan dekat. Dari hasil analisa bivariat diketahui lima dari tujuh varlabel independen yaitu pendidikan, pekerjaan, jarak rumah, pengetahuan dan sikap ibu meneteki terbukti mempunyai hubungan dengan penggunaan penolong persalinan. Sedangkan varlabel umur dan pendapatan keluarga terbukti tidak mempunyai hubungan yang bermakna dengan penggunaan tenaga penolong persalinan. Mengingat pertolongan persalinan di Kabupaten Ciamis masih didominasi oleh paraji, perlu diupayakan adanya suatu terobosan untuk meningkatkan pertolongan persalinan terutama oleh tenaga kesehatan. Selaln itu perlu lebih mengintensifkan kegiatan penyuluhan mengenai kesehatan, khususnya mengenal keberadaan bidan di desa den tempat pelayanan persalinan yang ada di desa.

The objective of this study is to obtain Information regarding the factors related to the breast-feeding mothers in using maternal health personnels when deliver their babies. This cross sectional study is done with an approach of research method of analytic descriptive. The study is done to all the breast-feeding mothers whose their youngest children attain the age less than one year, who live surrounding the Puskesmas Gardujaya and Puskesmas Mulyasari, which totally up to 460 persons. There is no sampling removal, because all of the population become research object.

By univariat analysis, It was found that a great part of mothers were helped by the traditional birth attendant (73,3 %) and the mothers attain the age of 20 - 30 years (63 % ). About 65,4 % mothers have graduated from Secondary School and 59,5 °k mothers are house-wifes looking from the family ' s income level, there are 52,6 % with nigh income and 47,9 % with low Income, About the distance from mother's home to the maternity unit (midwife's home ), a great part of mothers told that if was near.

By bivariat analysis, it was found that 5 out of 7 independent variables, such as education level, home distance, general knowledge and mothers attitude do Influence the used of maternal health personnels. Where as the variables such as age and family's Income level were proven to have no distinct influences In using maternal health personnels.

Because of the main reason that maternity process of Ciamis Regency is still dominated by the traditional birth attendant, so it was Important to create a goo4 penetration to Improve maternity service done by professional health care personnels.Beside, efforts have to be more Intensity in passing information about health care, especially about the presence of the village-based midwife and the maternity unit provided at village for maternal health services.
