Kualitas udara dalam ruang pada industri garmen rumah tangga dicemari oleh gas formaldehid dari bahan tekstil. Gas formaldehid akan menyebabkan efek iritasi pada pekerja yang berada dalam ruang.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan pencemaran udara dalam ruang oleh gas formaldehid dan efek iritasi yang terjadi pada pekerja garmen di industri rumah tangga. Juga untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi konsentrasi gas formaldehid dalam ruang (temperatur, kelembaban, kepadatan dan luas ventilasi ) dan karakteristik pekerja (umur, jenis kelamin, kebiasaan merokok, lama bekerja dan jenis pekerjaan).Penelitian menggunakan desain potong lintang (cross sectional), pengambilan sampel secara purposif pada 4 industri garmen rumah tangga di Jakarta Barat dengan jumlah responden 192 orang.Hasil pengukuran konsentrasi gas formaldehid dalam ruang pada industri garmen rumah tangga antara 0,00 mg/m3 - 0,62 mg /m3 dengan rata-rata 0,27 mg/m3, pada beberapa titik sampel ada yang melampaui nilai ambang batas untuk TLV.C (0,37mg/m3 ).Dengan mempergunakan uji statistik regresi logistik didapatkan hasil bahwa konsentrasi gas formaldehid, lama bekerja dan jenis pekerjaan berhubungan dengan terjadinya efek kesehatan/iritasi pada pekerja dan masuk dalam model persamaan regresi logistik. Konsentrasi gas formaldehid adalah variabel yang paling mungkin untuk di intervensi untuk menurunkan resiko terjadinya efek kesehatan yang lebih berat.Penelitian ini menyimpulkan terdapat hubungan antara konsentrasi gas formaldehid dalam ruang dan efek kesehatan/iritasi pada pekerja industri garmen rumah tangga dan disarankan agar lingkungan kerja lebih diperhatikan sebagai upaya untuk menurunkan konsentrasi gas formaldehid dan pemakaian bahan substitusi untuk formaldehid pada tekstil.Daftar bacaan : 30 ( 1977 - 1996 )

The Relationship Between Indoor Air Pollution by Formaldehyde and Irritation Effect on Household Garment Industry Workers In Jakarta 1997The quality of indoor air at household garment industry is contaminated by formaldehyde of textile material. Formaldehyde will cause irritating effect on the indoor workers.

The purpose of this research is to know the relationship between indoor air pollution by formaldehyde and the irritation effect on household garment industry workers. It is also to know the factors that influence indoor formaldehyde concentration (temperature, humidity, density and ventilation) and the workers' characteristic (age, sex, smoking habit, length of working and kind of job).

The measurement result of the indoor formaldehyde gas concentration at household garment industries is between 0,00 mg 1 m3 - 0,62 mg/m3 with the average 0,27 mg/m3 , on some sample dots there is an over limit value of TLV.C (0,37mg/m3 ).

Using the logistic regression statistic test, we find the result that formaldehyde concentration , length of working, kind of job related to the cause of health effect/irritation on the workers and belong to logistic regression similarity model. The concentration of the formaldehyde gas is the most possible variable to be intervened to decrease the risk of severe health effect.

The research concluded that there is a relationship between the indoor concentration of formaldehyde and the health effect/irritation on household garment industry workers. It suggested that the working environment to be more paid attention as an effort to decrease the formaldehyde concentration and using of the substituted formaldehyde material on textile.
