Peran individu yang tinggal bersama lansia memiliki implikasi penting bagi kesehatan dan kesejahteraan lansia. Hasil tinjauan literatur menyatakan hasil yang bervariasi antara tinggal bersama mendampingi lansia dengan partisipasi bekerja individu yang tinggal bersama lansia. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dengan melihat kaitan antara tinggal bersama lansia dilihat dari status dan tingkatan kesulitan/gangguan fungsional tubuh lansia dengan partisipasi bekerja individu usia kerja yang tinggal bersama lansia. Penelitian ini juga mempelajari seberapa besar kecenderungan individu yang tinggal bersama lansia menjadi pekerja informal. Dengan menggunakan data SUSENAS Maret 2021, pada model probit tahap pertama metode Two Step Heckman ditemukan bahwa tinggal bersama lansia yang mengalami kesulitan akan meningkatkan partisipasi bekerja individu yang tinggal bersama lansia. Namun, ketika lansia semakin memiliki kesulitan/gangguan fungsional tubuh yang berat sampai sama sekali tidak mampu (sudah dikatakan lansia disabilitas) maka partisipasi bekerja individu yang tinggal bersama lansia juga ikut berkurang. Pada tahap kedua model regresi logistik biner menunjukkan tinggal bersama lansia yang mengalami kesulitan berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan kecenderungan individu menjadi pekerja informal. Penelitian ini juga menemukan tinggal bersama lansia tua dapat menurunkan partisipasi bekerja dan meningkatkan kecenderungan individu yang tinggal bersama lansia untuk menjadi pekerja informal. Pemerintah perlu memikirkan langkah yang baik untuk membantu individu yang tinggal bersama lansia disabilitas atau tinggal bersama lansia tua terutama pada status ekonomi yang rendah agar mereka tidak keluar dari pasar kerja ketika tetap harus mendampingi lansia.

The role of individuals living with the elderly has important implications for health and elderly’s welfare. The results of the literature review stated that the results varied between living with the elderly and work participation of individuals living with the elderly. This study aims to analyze the relationship between living with the elderly as seen from the status and level of functional impairment of the elderly and the work participation of working-age individuals living with the elderly. The study also studied how much the tendency of individuals living with the elderly become informal workers. Using SUSENAS 2021 data, in the first phase of the Probit model of the Two Step Heckman method, it was found that living with elderly people who have functional impairments will increase the work participation of individuals living with the elderly. However, when the elderly have functional impairments that are getting worse to the point of being unable (elderly with disabilities), the work participation of individuals who live with the elderly also decreases. In the second stage, the binary logistic regression model shows that living with the elderly who have functional impairments influences the increased tendency of individuals to become informal workers. The study also found living with elderly people aged 80 years over can reduce work participation and increase the tendency of individuals who live with the elderly to become informal workers. The government needs to help individuals who live with elderly people with disabilities or live with elderly people aged 80 years over, especially those with low economic status, so that they do not leave the job market when they still must accompany the elderly.
