Kemajuan teknologi telah mempercepat berkembangnya berbagai aspek kehidupan manusia, salah satunya adalah teknologi pada kendaraan bermotor. Perkembangan teknologi pada industri otomotif telah menciptakan kendaraan mobil listrik yang mengalami peningkatan penjualan. Penjualan EV yang didominasi oleh tipe Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) diprediksi dapat menguasai 81% dari total penjualan EV di tahun 2030 mendatang. Peningkatan produksi mobil listrik ini akan mendorong permintaan terhadap komponen penting dari baterai EV yaitu Nikel. Indonesia sebagai negara pemilik cadangan terbesar di dunia memiliki peluang untuk menjadi pemimpin pada pasar perdagangan internasional Nikel, namun faktanya performa ekspor Nikel Indonesia belum sesuai yang diharapkan. Penelitian ini berusaha mempelajari daya saing industri Nikel yang digambarkan dengan indeks RCA beserta faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi untuk mengetahui kebijakan terbaik untuk mendorong performa ekspor Nikel. Menggunakan estimasi data panel dari 9 negara penghasil Nikel utama dunia, variabel total produksi dan R&D dari daya saing ditemukan berpengaruh positif dalam mempengaruhi kinerja ekspor Nikel negara-negara tersebut, variabel harga Nikel berpengaruh negatif sedangkan variabel FDI ditemukan tidak signifikan mempengaruhi kinerja ekspor Nikel.

Advances in technology have accelerated the development of various aspects of human life, one of which is technology in vehicles industry. Technological developments in the automotive industry have created electric car vehicles that have increased sales. EV sales, which are dominated by Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) are predicted to dominate 81% of total EV sales in 2030. This increase in electric car production will drive demand for an important component of EV batteries, which is Nickel. Indonesia as the country with the largest reserves in the world has the opportunity to become a leader in the international nickel trade market, but in fact Indonesia's nickel export performance has not been as expected. This research tries to study the competitiveness of the Nickel industry which is described by the RCA index and factors to find out the best policy to encourage the performance of Nickel exports. Using panel data estimates from 9 main Nickel producing countries in the world, the total production and R&D variables of competitiveness were found to have a positive effect on the export performance of Nickel in these countries, the Nickel price variable had a negative effect, while the FDI variable was found to have no significant effect on the performance of Nickel exports.
