Artikel ini membahas mengenai peran Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) sebagai destinasi wisata budaya nasional yang beroperasi antara tahun 1975 hingga 1985. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui latar belakang proses dari pembangunan TMII, serta upaya penyelesaian, sampai peran TMII sebagai objek wisata budaya nasional maupun pandangan masyarakat terkait TMII guna memahami nilai-nilai budaya Indonesia yang kaya dan beragam melalui suatu tempat objek wisata yang dapat dikunjungi oleh masyarakat. Dalam hal ini, TMII dibangun sebagai representasi visual dari keanekaragaman budaya yang ada di Indonesia, dengan tujuan memperkuat keragaman budaya nusantara. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahapan berupa heuristik, verifikasi sumber, interpretasi, dan historiografi, dengan pengumpulan sumber melalui studi literatur dan observasi langsung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa TMII berhasil menarik perhatian wisatawan, dan menjadi tempat wisata budaya nasional pada tahun 1975-1985. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah juga menampilkan miniatur dari provinsi-provinsi di Indonesia, membuat tradisi pagelaran budaya pada akhir pekan, arsitektur anjungan, dan keragaman budaya nusantara sehingga pengunjung dapat merasakan pengalaman keragaman budaya Indonesia. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa TMII tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai objek wisata, tetapi juga sebagai sarana edukasi yang penting bagi masyarakat dalam melestarikan budaya dan memperkuat rasa kebangsaan di tengah arus globalisasi.

This article discusses the role of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) as a national cultural tourism destination that operated between 1975 and 1985. This research aims to understand the background process of the construction of TMII, as well as the completion efforts, up to the role of TMII as a national cultural tourism object and the public's views on TMII in order to comprehend the rich and diverse cultural values of Indonesia through a tourist site that can be visited by the public. In this case, TMII was built as a visual representation of the cultural diversity present in Indonesia, with the aim of strengthening the cultural diversity of the archipelago. This research uses historical research methods consisting of four stages: heuristics, source verification, interpretation, and historiography, with source collection through literature study and direct observation. The research results show that TMII successfully attracted the attention of tourists and became a national cultural tourist destination from 1975 to 1985. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah also features miniatures of the provinces in Indonesia, creates a tradition of cultural performances on weekends, showcases pavilion architecture, and presents the cultural diversity of the archipelago, allowing visitors to experience the rich cultural diversity of Indonesia. The conclusion of this research is that TMII not only serves as a tourist attraction but also as an important educational medium for the community in preserving culture and strengthening nationalism amidst the currents of globalization.
