Keluarga mempunyai peran sebagai caregiver. Caregiver dalam keluarga berfungsi untuk mendukung kesehatan anggota keluarga. Setiap individu memiliki kualitas hidup yang dinilai dari empat dimensi yaitu kesehatan fisik, psikologis, sosial dan lingkungan. Lansia cenderung memiliki kualitas hidup yang lebih rendah karena adanya suatu penyakit yang dialami seperti diabetes. Peran keluarga sebagai caregiver dianggap dapat menjadi salah satu faktor untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidup lansia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi hubungan antara peran keluarga sebagai caregiver dan kualitas hidup lansia dengan diabetes. Metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data adalah dengan uji chi square dengan pendekatan cross-sectional, dengan teknik total sampling dan melibatkan 94 lansia yang didapatkan melalui skrining. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur peran keluarga sebagai caregiver adalah kuesioner peran keluarga sebagai caregiver dan kualitas hidup lansia diukur menggunakan kuesioner World Health Organization Quality of Life. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat hubungan signifikan antara peran keluarga sebagai caregiver dengan kualitas hidup lansia diabetes (p value < 0,05). Oleh karena itu, diharapkan keluarga lebih aktif dalam mendampingi lansia, dan menjaga komunikasi pada lansia.

Families have a role as caregivers. Caregivers in the family function to support the health of family members. Each individual has a quality of life that is assessed from four dimensions, namely physical, psychological, social and environmental health. The elderly tend to have a lower quality of life due to an experienced disease such as diabetes. The role of the family as a caregiver is considered to be one of the factors to improve the quality of life of the elderly. This study aims to identify the relationship between the role of the family as a caregiver and the quality of life of the elderly with diabetes. The method used to analyze the data was the chi square test with a cross-sectional approach, with a total sampling technique and involving 94 elderly people obtained through screening. The instrument used to measure the role of the family as a caregiver is the family role questionnaire as a caregiver and the quality of life of the elderly is measured using the World Health Organization Quality of Life questionnaire. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship between the role of the family as a caregiver and the quality of life of the elderly with diabetes (p value <0.05). Therefore, it is hoped that families will be more active in assisting the elderly, and maintain communication with the elderly.
