 Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed how individuals form and maintain romantic relationships. The widespread use of social media has the potential to trigger online surveillance behaviors toward romantic partners. This study aims to examine the relationship between adult attachment styles, specifically the anxious and avoidant dimensions and online surveillance among 175 young adults currently engaged in dating relationships in Indonesia. A quantitative correlational approach was employed, utilizing online questionnaires for data collection. The instruments used in this study were the Experiences in Close Relationship Scale Short Form (ECR-SF) and the Interpersonal Electronic Surveillance Scale (IESS). The results of the partial correlation analysis indicate that individuals with an anxious attachment style are more likely to engage in online surveillance. In contrast, no significant relationship was found between avoidant attachment and online surveillance. These findings underscore the influential role of anxious attachment in predicting online surveillance behavior among young adults in dating relationships.
