"Dengan meningkatnya kompleksitas pemakai basis data, kini arsitektur sistem basis data tidak hanya berdiri sendiri (stand alone/desktop) ataupun 2-tier (client server) kini trend teknologi arsitektur model 3-tier (client, server dan database server) mulai banyak digunakan karena memiliki kelebihan dalam hal efisiensi dan fleksibilitas khususnya sistem basis data yang besar yang memiliki banyak pemakai. Basis data 3-tier merupakan arsitektur yang memiliki tiga segmen, yaitu aplikasi client (client application), aplikasi server (application server) dan basis data server (database server). Pada penelitian ini dirancang model sistem basis data 3-tier yang diaplikasikan untuk simulasi pemantauan mesin Automatic Cutting Soldering (ACS) secara real-time. Sistem basis data 3-tier tersebut dibangun dengan perangkat lunak Borland Delphi 6 untuk aplikasi server (application server) dan aplikasi client (client application) serta SQL Server 2000 sebagai basis data server (database server). Dari hasil perancangan dapat disimpulkan bahwa sistem basis data 3-tier tersebut memiliki kelebihan yaitu ; fleksibel, zero-configuration akses basis data di sisi client, ekonomis, mudah dilakukan up grade konfigurasi dan perawatan sistem."

"Jaringan thin client merupakan pengembangan konsep pemberdayaan jaringan komputer lokal berbasis Green ICT. Model jaringan dumb terminal dan diskless merupakan dua model jaringan thin client yang dikenal saat ini. Model jaringan dumb terminal dan diskless menawarkan penghematan konsumsi daya dan upaya pendukung teknologi ramah lingkungan. Tulisan ini membahas tentang kinerja jaringan dumb terminal dan diskless untuk melayani aktivitas pengguna dengan aplikasi multimedia yang banyak dimanfaatkan pengguna saat ini. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa sistem jaringan diskless memiliki kinerja lebih baik dibandingkan jaringan dumb terminal untuk mengoperasikan aplikasi multimedia. Hal ini ditunjukkan bahwa jaringan diskless mampu menghemat penggunaan sumber daya hingga 30,78 % untuk konsumsi CPU dan 12,16 % untuk konsumsi memori serta memiliki intensitas komunikasi data hingga 15,17 % lebih besar dibandingkan dengan jaringan dumb terminal.

Thin client network is a development concept of Local Area Network (LAN) deployment based on Green ICT. Dumb terminal network and diskless network are two well known of thin client network model. Dumb terminal network and diskless network offer saving power consumption and "Green" technology effort. This paper discuss about dumb terminal network and diskless network performance to server user activities with multimedia application that well known around many people now.

Experiment result show that diskless network system performance is better than dumb terminal network system to operate multimedia application. It show that diskless network can save resource usage up to 30.78 % of CPU usage and up to 12,16 % of memory usage and also has data transfer intensity up to 15.17 % that is bigger than dumb terminal network."

"Penggunaan Load Balancing pada aplikasi E-Voting memberikan hasil performa yang effisien untuk hasil test GET (download) dan hasil yang tidak effisien untuk hasil test POST (upload). Dengan menggunakan Load Balancing, angka yang diperoleh untuk throughput sebesar 750kbps. Pada test POST membutuhkan proses read dan write, throughput yang diperoleh kurang dari 2kbps. Pengukuran POST mendapatkan hasil yang tidak efisien dikarenakan penggunaan content server secara virtual (3 server pada satu machine). Algoritma Least Current Request menunjukkan performa terbaik dibandingkan dengan 3 algoritma lainnya, yaitu Least Response Time, Weighted Round Robin, dan Weighted Total Traffic. Kinerja Load Balancing tidak hanya dipengaruhi oleh jumlah paket data yang diakses, tetapi juga proses request apa yang dilakukan. Solusi terbaik adalah, Load Balancing diimplementasikan dengan menggunakan mesin yang memiliki spesifikasi yang tinggi pada database server dan setiap server pada server farms tidak dijalankan secara virtual.

The use of Load Balancing in the E-Voting application gives an efficient result for the GET (download) test, and an inefficient one for the POST (upload) test. Using Load Balancing, the resulting throughput is 750 kbps. The POST test needs read and write processes, making the resulting throughput less than 2 kbps. The POST test obtained inefficient results because the uses of content server virtualy (3 servers in one machine). Least Current Request algorithm shows the best performance compared to the other three in the measurement, which are Least Response Time, Weighted Round Robin, and Weighted Total Traffic. The performance of Load Balancing not only influenced by the numbers of data packet accessed, but also by the request process. The best solution is to implement Load Balancing on a high specification system on the server database, with no virtual machines for the servers"
