"The articles in this volume give an overview and introduction to nonlinear phenomena in structural dynamics. Topics treated are approximate methods for analyzing nonlinear systems (where the level of nonlinearity is assumed to be relatively small), vibration isolation, the mitigation of undesirable torsional vibration in rotating systems utilizing specifically nonlinear features in the dynamics, the vibration of nonlinear structures in which the motion is sufficiently large amplitude and structural systems with control.

"Bila struktur mengalami getaran dari suatu sumber getar yang merambat ke struktur tersebut dengan frekuensi sama dengan salah satu frekuensi natural yang dimiliki oleh struktur, maka akan terjadi fenomena resonansi dimana amplituda getaran membesar, yang dapat menimbulkan kerusakan. Hal ini dapat dicegah dengan memodifikasi struktur, yaitu dengan menambah massa (m) dan kekakuan (k).
Pada proses perancangan dan pengembangan suatu struktur, sering diperlukan suatu modifikasi pada struktur untuk mendapatkan rancangan yang aman. Modifikasi ini menyebabkan parameter pola getar dari struktur yang dimodifikasi menjadi berubah.
Dalam tulisan ini akan dibahas analisis teori dan studi percobaan untuk mendapatkan frekuensi alami sebelum dan sesudah modifikasi struktur, dimana metode yang digunakan dalam modifikasi struktur adalah metode eksak, metode konvensional dan metode sensitivitas. Pada dua metode terakhir untuk memperoleh frekuensi alami sesudah modifikasi cukup diambil nilai karakteristik dinamik dari struktur unmodified.
Sedangkan pengujian getaran menggunakan alat-alat "Dual Channel Signal Analyzer B & K 2034" yang menghasilkan respons frekwensi dari model struktur. Benda uji berupa pelat dari aluminium yang dijepit pada ujung yang satu dan bebas pada ujung lainnya (kantilever).
Modifikasi disini adalah dengan penambahan massa kecil pada benda uji. Untuk keperluan simulasi numerik dipergunakan program SAP..90. Selanjutnya metode-metode dalam modifikasi struktur akan saling dibandingkan dan hasil pengujian merupakan validasinya."
