"Penelitian ini membahas tentang proses manajemen dengan real world perpustakaan sekolah yang berlokasi di SMKN 2 Kota Serang, Banten. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) yang berdasarkan action research (SSM based on action research) untuk keperluan problem solving saja. Fokus penelitian ini ditekankan pada upaya peningkatan manajemen dan fungsi perpustakaan yang ada di SMKN 2 Kota Serang. Framework yang digunakan adalah teori manajemen yang dikemukakan oleh Luther Hasley Gulick yang menyatakan bahwa manajemen ialah proses perencanaan (planning), organisasi (organizing), kepegawaian (staffing) dan pengarahan (directing) terhadap usaha-usaha anggota organisasi dan penggunaan semua sumber-sumber organisasi lainnya yang berusaha secara sistematis untuk mengetahui mengapa dan bagaimana manusia bekerja bersama untuk mencapai tujuan dan membuat sistem kerjasama ini lebih bermanfaat bagi kemanusiaan. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa manajemen perpustakaan akan berjalan efektif jika dalam pengelolaannya ada keterkaitan antara pengawas sekolah dengan manajemen perpustakaan. Selain itu, pengelolaan perpustakaan memang membutuhkan pengelola yang cukup tahu masalah manajemen, mempunyai ide-ide segar dan bekerja secara profesional di perpustakaan.

This research studies the management process of school library which is located in SMKN 2 Kota Serang, Banten. This research uses Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) based on action research for problem solving interest. This research focuses on the effort to improving management and function of the library of SMKN 2 Kota Serang. This research is using Luther Hasley Gulick?s management theory as framework, which stated that management is the process of planning, organizing, leading and controlling the efforts of organization member and using all other organizational resources which systematically manages to figure out why and how people cooperate to achieve their goals and making the cooperation system to have more benefits for humankind. This research concludes that management of library will be efective if its management related with the role of supervisor. On the other hand, management of school library firmly requires adequate person who has sufficient knowledge in management, fresh ideas and be willing to work professionally in the library."
