ABSTRACTThe Indonesians compentionally dry the seeds from agriculture such as rice, corn, cassava, peanut, banana, etc. wilh a certain period of aeration. This conventional way can cause the seeds to be rotten before being used, due to the high lemperature (30 °C) and high humidity (70 - 90%) in Indonesia. Arranging the temperature and humidity to be constant for a period of time w/7/ make the drying result better than the former. Flat Plate Collector captures sun radiation and transmits the hot air into a chamber equipped with temperature and air humidity recorder. The hot air can reach as high temperature as 70 °C. This Flat Plate Collector systern can be expected to give a better drying system than the conventional way. Thtis it can help for a long time storage:"

"The spontaneous combustion of coal stockpiles is a serious economic and safety problem. Unfortunately it is not easy to understand these phenomena. This is due to the mechanism of spontaneous combustion is affected by many internal and external factors including particle size. The low-temperatur oxidation reaction in the nature or stockpiles of coal piles is considered slow due to limited heat exchange between coal and direct surroundings. Thus, an adiabatic oxidation testing method used for determining the spontaneous combustion character propensity of a sub-bituminous coal. This work particulary focuses on studying the effect of particle size on the self-heating rate (R70) as well as the activation energy (Ea) and time to ignition (tad). The test showed that increase of the particle size decreased self-heating rate, increased ectivation energy and delayed time to ignition.
One of certain way to process the preserving of food and beverage or to ease the packaging process is drying process. To acieve the efficiency and effectiveness, it needs to find out the characterisitic of water content. This is the reason of research about the flow rate of the evaporation. It depends on the humidity, surrounding temperature, and the velocity of air. The instrument device uses injection contained aquades. Air flows through the droplet with the variation of velocity and temperature. It shows the relationship of Reynolds (Re), Prandtl (Pr), Schmidt (Sc), Nusselt (Nu), and Sherwood (Sh) numbers. Heat and mass transfer occur in this process. Ranz-Marshall analogy used to calculate the equation. Data of the experiments show the tendency of being above the Ranz-Marshall analogy."

"Salah satu cara pengolahan bahan makanan dan minuman untuk diawetkan maupun untuk memudahkan dalam proses pengemasan adalah dengan proses pengeringan. Untuk mendapatkan hasil pengeringan yang efisien dan efektif maka diperlukan sifat penguapan air yang terkandung di dalamnya. Hal inilah yang menjadi alasan perlunya penelitian tentang laju penguapan di mana sangat dipengaruhi oleh kelembaban udara, temperatur lingkungan kerja dan kecepatan aliran dengan cara penguapan sampai dengan kering tetesan. Alat yang digunakan berupa alat penyuntik cairan yang berisi air murni (aquades). Di mana udara dialirkan melalui droplet dengan variasi kecepatan aliran fluida udara dan dengan memvariasikan temperatur udara tersebut. Di sini memperlihatkan hubungan bilangan Reynolds (Re), Prandtl (Pr), Schmidt (Sc), Nusselt (Nu), dan Sherwood (Sh). Dalam proses pengeringan droplet ini terjadi proses perpindahan panas dan perindahan massa. Perpindahan massa ini ternyata mempengaruhi (mempercepat) proses perpindahan panas. Ranz-Marshall adalah yang meniliti tetntang perpindahan panas murni. Data yang didapat dari percobaan perpindahan panas dan perpindahan massa mempunyai kecenderungan selalu berada di atas model analogi perpindahan massa Ranz-Marshall.
