"Kajian-kajian tentang lanskap spiritual terdahulu selalu berkaitan dan didukung dengan kekuatan eksternal seperti penghormatan terhadap leluhur, roh halus, simbolisasi mikro kosmik, dan bahkan sosial politik. Tesis ini mencoba untuk menambahkan perdebatan tentang bagaimana lanskap spiritual dibangun dari hal yang sangat partikular dan profan dengan bentuk-bentuk komodifikasi terhadap Gunung Kawi. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mencoba untuk memahami bagaimana mereka tetap paralel dan bermakna dengan kesakralan Gunung Kawi. Dengan menggunakan metode etnografi dan melakukan pengamatan yang mendalam, saya menjumpai dua keberadaan yang signifikan untuk ditelaah lebih lanjut yaitu keberadaan pengunjung dan warga. Saya juga melihat bahwa interaksi pengunjung dan warga melahirkan praktik komodifikasi. Bertumpu pada pemikiran Bateson, ia menyatakan bahwa suatu kebudayaan penting untuk dilihat dari interaksi mereka dengan kebudayaan lain. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa feedback loops keberadaan pengunjung dan warga yang saling berinteraksi sebelumnya membentuk entitas baru bernama pengantar tamu. Pada saat tertentu, pengantar tamu memperlakukan Gunung Kawi dengan sangat sakral dalam wujud punden. Di samping itu, pengantar tamu juga melakukan praktik komodifikasi terhadap situs suci yang di dalamnya terdapat persaingan, pertarungan, dan kepentingan. Pengantar tamu menciptakan praktik-praktik komodifikasi yang pada akhirnya menjadi penting untuk menjaga eksistensi kesakralan Gunung Kawi. Komodifikasi juga diperlukan untuk mencari mekanisme order dalam memperoleh pembangunan dan kesejahteraan warga yang diperoleh dari pengunjung.

Studies of the preceding spiritual landscape are always related and supported by external forces such as the respect for ancestors, spirits, micro-cosmic symbolizations, and even socio-politics. This thesis tries to add the debate about how the spiritual landscape is created from something very particular and profane with the commodified forms of Gunung Kawi. In addition, this study also tries to understand how it remains parallel and meaningful with the sacredness of Gunung Kawi. By using ethnographic methods and conducting in-depth observations, I found two significant existences to be studied further : the existences of visitors and residents. I also saw that the interaction of visitors and residents created the practice of commodification. Based on Bateson's intellection, he stated that culture is important to be seen from its interaction with other cultures. This proves that the feedback loops where visitors and residents interacted with each other formed a new entity called a pengantar tamu. At certain times, the pengantar tamu treated Gunung Kawi very sacredly in the form of punden. In addition, pengantar tamu also carried out commodification practices to sacred sites in which there are competitions, fights, and interests. The pengantar tamu created commodification practices which in the end became important to maintain the existence of the sacredness of Gunung Kawi. Commodification is also needed to find an order mechanism in obtaining the development and welfare of residents obtained from visitors."
