"This was the integrated research conducted by Puslitbang Pendidikan Agama dan Keagamaan related to the theme of religious education. In the 2006, covered by the title of Restrukturisasi MAK, in the 2007 by Madrasah Taffaquh Fiddin, in the 2008, by Profil Alumni Madrasah Aliyah Keagamaan, and in the 2009 covered by Formalisasi Madrasah Diniyah. These research done as a response of the social afraid with the reduction of religious values in the religious education caused by the chance of policies as for in the state or department degree. Those policies sometimes paying less attention to the negative impact and institutional history of the religious education. This occured especially to the Madrasah Aliyah Program Khusus (MAPK), which have become lost. On the other band, moslems community protested those policy and hoped to reconstruct this institution. So, this research conducted by mean to explore public opinion whether should be reconstruction of MAPK."

"Perdebatan mengenai citra pesantren yang dianggap jauh dari Modernitas telah menjadi ruang intelektual baru yang dapat dimulai melalui pemahaman umum mengenai Modernitas Global. Pemikiran yang menganggap bahwa modernitas itu bersifat tunggal tersebut mengalami bias pemaknaan karena adanya institusi pendidikan keagamaan tradisional di Indonesia, yakni Pesantren Gontor yang telah membuktikan bahwa sejumlah kadernya dapat menempatkan posisinya secara optimal dengan modernitas dan teknologi sehingga kemampuannya diakui secara global. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini mengupas bagaimana pesantren Gontor mengoptimalkan pengembangan pemikiran mengenai modernitas yang dianggap tunggal oleh Modernitas Global melalui Alternative Modernity yang mereka implementasikan. Penulisan artikel ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan studi pustaka yang memungkinkan diperlukan penelitian lebih lanjut. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa Pesantren Gontor telah berhasil menawarkan perpaduan yang kuat antara karakter Indonesia dan Islam serta pemaknaan mereka sendiri mengenai modernitas sebagai Alternative Modernity terhadap sistem pendidikan Islam di Indonesia.

The debate about the image of pesantren which is considered far from modernity has become a new intellectual space that can be initiated through a general understanding of global modernity. The notion that considers modernity is singular has a biased meaning because of the existence of traditional religious education institutions in Indonesia, namely the Gontor Islamic Boarding School which has proven that a number of its cadres can position themselves optimally with modernity and technology so that their capabilities are recognized globally. Therefore, this article explores how the Gontor Islamic Boarding School optimizes developmental thinking regarding modernity which is considered singular by Global Modernity through the Alternative Modernity that they implement. The writing of this article uses a qualitative method with a literature study which allows for further research. This article concludes that the Gontor Islamic Boarding School has succeeded in offering a strong blend of Indonesian and Islamic characters and their meaning of modernity as an Alternative to Modernity to the Islamic education system in Indonesia."
