Urbanization can induce the urban-rural contrast in temperature. This phenomenon is known as Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. Taking Pangkalpinang City as a case study due to its rapid development, this study utilized Landsat images to analyze the spatial patterns of surface temperatures for years 2000 and 2006 and surface temperature - land cover, vegetation density (NDVI), built-up and/or bare land density (NDBI) relationships.
The results showed that UHI regions increased, urban and bare land had the highest mean surface temperatures, vegetation density and surface temperature correlated negatively, and built-up and/or bare land density and surface temperature correlated positively.

Parkour is essentially a way to move from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible. By using elements available in an urban space, parkour is an activity that frees the doer from their daily life. Parkour happens by changing the meaning of a spatial object into something that is used towards the goal of the doer. Parkour rsquo s ability to interpret a city space is affected by the doer rsquo s playful attitude. City space and its elements naturally supports this subversive activity such as parkour with its ambiguity and randomness that is always present in a city. Parkour rsquo s behavior could indirectly transform a city space and could also acts as a critic of a city space."

"Sustainable urban environments : an ecosystem approach presents fundamental knowledge of the built environment. Approaching the topic from an ecosystems perspective, it shows the reader how to combine diverse practical elements into sustainable solutions for future buildings and cities. From urban ecology to material, water and energy use, from urban transport to livability and health. The authors introduce and explore a variety of governance tools that support the transformation process, and show how they can help overcome institutional barriers. The book concludes with an account of promising perspectives for achieving a sustainable built environment in industrialized countries. Offering a unique overview and understanding of the most pressing challenges in the built environment, Sustainable urban environments helps the reader grasp opportunities for integration of knowledge and technologies in the design, construction and management of the built environment. "This text formally appraises the innovative ways new media artists engage urban ecology. Highlighting the role of artists as agents of technological change, the work reviews new modes of seeing, representing and connecting within the urban setting. The book describes how technology can be exploited in order to create artworks that transcend the technology’s original purpose, thus expanding the language of environmental engagement whilst also demonstrating a clear understanding of the societal issues and values being addressed. Features: assesses how data from smart cities may be used to create artworks that can recast residents’ understanding of urban space; examines transformations of urban space through the reimagining of urban information; discusses the engagement of urban residents with street art, including collaborative community art projects and public digital media installations; presents perspectives from a diverse range of practicing artists, architects, urban planners and critical theorists."
