"These conference proceedings include a collection of articles presented at the RailExchange conference in October 2017 at Newcastle University, UK. They will be useful for researchers in developing countries looking for opportunities of knowledge exchange. The RailExchange project aimed to develop sustainable railway education in Thailand, via international partnerships and industry collaborations based around stakeholders' expertise and experiences. It involved staff exchange (academics and researchers) between Mahidol and Newcastle University for joint research and curriculum development and also organizing railway conferences and workshops in both Thailand and the UK.
The papers published here focus on rail-related issues and present a perspective of a widely understood 'exchange' in academia and industry environments. 'Exchange' is perceived as rail knowledge exchange between partners, rail staff exchange between academia and/or industry, research exchange between teams, student-lecturer knowledge exchange, academia-industry collaboration, etc. In addition, more general rail-related papers are also included."

ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas pengembangan trasnportasi kereta api di wilayah Jabodetabek yang dilakukan oleh PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek tahun 2008-2013. PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (PT KCJ) memiliki peran besar dalam pengembangan transportasi kereta rel listrik (KRL). Hal itu dilakukan dengan cara penghapusan KRL Ekonomi, memberlakukan e-ticketing, perluasan jaringan KRL, penataan ulang stasiun, pembuatan lahan parkir baru, perbaikan sarana prasarana kereta api dan sebagainya. Perubahan-perubahan yang dilakukan PT KCJ ini tak lain demi keamanan serta kenyamanan penumpang KRL yang terus tumbuh pesat setiap tahunnya. Perubahan tersebut tentunya sangat diapresiasi masyarakat Jabodetabek sehingga membuat animo masyarakat semakin besar untuk menggunakan kereta rel listrik.
ABSTRACTThis thesis discusses the development of railway transportation in Jabodetabek area conducted by PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek 2008-2013. PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (PT KCJ) has a major role in the development of electric rail transport (KRL). This is done by eliminating the Economy KRL, enacting e-ticketing, KRL network extension, station rearrangement, new parking lot, repair of railway infrastructure and so on. Changes made by PT KCJ is none other than for the security and comfort of KRL passengers who continue to grow rapidly every year. The change is certainly highly appreciated by the people of Jabodetabek, thus making the public interest to use electric train."

"Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengetahui potensi penggunaan fasilitas pejalan kaki sebagai penunjang proses transfer antarmoda angkutan umum berbasis rel berdasarkan kondisi hipotetikal fasilitas pejalan kaki sebagai moda yang dapat dipilih masyarakat untuk melakukan transfer dibandingkan dengan atribut waktu dan biaya moda kompetitor (mikrotrans) dengan pedekatan choice model. Metode analisis pada penelitian ini menggunakan model logit biner yang dibuat berdasarkan data primer hasil survei. Survei dilakukan dengan metode stated preference. Fungsi utilitas dibuat dengan metode regresi logistik dengan variabel hasil uji korelasi Spearman berdasarkan kelompok data pendapatan dan jenis kelamin diikuti dengan uji kelayakan menggunakan parameter uji Omnibus Test of Model Coefficients, Hosmer and Lameshow Test, Overall Percentage, -2 Log Likelihood, dan Nagelkerke R Square. Kemudian dilakukan uji validasi dengan membandingkan data hasil model dan data real menggunakan metode Root Mean Square Error. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji komparasi dengan metode Mann-Whitney dan Kruskal-Wallis untuk mengetahui signifikansi perbedaan dari model untuk setiap kelompok. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, model – model yang diuji dapat digabungkan dan diwakilkan oleh satu model. Probabilitas potensi penggunaan fasilitas transfer pejalan kaki adalah sebesar 70,74%. Keluaran lainnya dari penelitian ini adalah besaran value of time proses transfer antarmoda angkutan umum berbasis rel melalui jembatan pejalan kaki yaitu Rp586,52/menit (pendapatan rendah-sedang), Rp761,90/menit (pendapatan tinggi), Rp666,67/menit (perempuan) dan Rp577,64/menit (laki-laki).
The research was conducted to determine the potential use of pedestrian facilities as support for the intermodal transfer process of rail-based public transportation based on the hypothetical condition of pedestrian facilities as a mode that can be chosen by the public for transfer compared to the attributes of time and cost of competitor modes (mikrotrans) using a choice model approach. The analysis method in this study uses a binary logit model based on primary data from surveys. The survey was conducted using the stated preference method. The utility function was created using logistic regression methods with variables resulting from the Spearman correlation test based on income and gender data groups followed by feasibility test using the parameters of the Omnibus Test of Model Coefficients, Hosmer and Lameshow Test, Overall Percentage, -2 Log Likelihood, and Nagelkerke R Square. Then proceed with conducting validation test by comparing the model data and real data using the Root Mean Square Error method. Afterward, a comparative tests with the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis methods were performed to determine the significance of differences in the model for each group. As the result, models tested can be combined and represented by a single model. The calculated probability for potential use of pedestrian transfer facility is 70,74%. Another output of this research is the value of time for the transfer process between rail-based public transportation through pedestrian bridge are Rp586,52/minute (low-medium income group), Rp761,90/minute (high income group), Rp666,67/minute (female gender group) and Rp577,64/minute (male gender group)."

"Tesis ini merumuskan dan menerapkan indeks keberlanjutan kereta bandara di tiga bandara besar di Asia, Bandara Internasional Soekarno Hatta di Indonesia, Bandara Internasional Narita dan Bandara Internasional Hong Kong. Indeks keberlanjutan komposit terdiri dari tiga dimensi dan sembilan indikator, dimensi lingkungan, ekonomi, dan sosial. Kereta Bandara Soekarno Hatta yang baru ini dibandingkan performanya dengan Narita Express dan Hong Kong Airport Express yang termasuk dalam kereta bandara paling sukses di dunia.
Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa Soekarno Hatta Airport Raillink kurang berkelanjutan dari Narita Express dan Hong Kong Airport Express. Kinerja tiga dimensi cenderung pada degradasi lingkungan dan ketidakadilan sosial, karena jika dibandingkan dengan raillink Bandara lain, Bandara Soekarno Hatta Raillink lebih terfokus pada dimensi ekonomi. Indeks ini dapat digunakan sebagai masukan bagi operator dan pemerintah untuk meningkatkan kinerja keberlanjutan dan untuk memenuhi sifat transportasi rel sebagai transportasi yang efisien dan ramah lingkungan.
This research formulate and applies a sustainability index of airport railway on three major airport in Asia, Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Indonesia, Narita International Airport and Hong Kong International Airport. The sustainability composite index consist of three dimension and nine indicators, the dimensions are environmental, economic, and social. The newly airport rail of Soekarno Hatta compared its performance to Narita Express and Hong Kong Airport Express that include of the most successful airport rail in the world.The result shows that Soekarno Hatta Airport Raillink less sustainable than Narita Express and Hong Kong Airport Express. The performance of three dimension tend to enviromental degradation and social unjustice because compared to others airport raillink, Soekarno Hatta Airport Raillink more focused on economic dimension. The index can be used as an input for operator and government to improve the sustainability performance and to meet the nature of rail transport as efficient and environmental friendly transportation."

"Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, kegiatan pemeliharaan menjadi semakin kompleks seiring dengan tren otomasi berbagai industry, salah satunya adalah transportasi kereta perkotaan. Selain kompleksitasnya, pemeliharaan juga merupakan kontributor utama dalam pengiriman biaya layanan, mencapai 15% dari total biaya operasi untuk layanan kereta perkotaan di Indonesia. Pemeliharaan sendiri merupakan proses bisnis berbasis risiko berkaitan dengan potensi kegagalan peralatan teknis yang mempengaruhi ketersediaan peralatan atau pendapatan layanan secara tidak langsung. Studi sebelumnya mengakui bahwa peningkatan ekspektasi kualitas layanan dan risiko kegiatan pemeliharaan masih linier dengan biaya pemeliharaan di mana sebagian besar perusahaan hanya mengikuti OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) daripada mengembangkan strategi yang lebih baik. Beberapa penelitian telah dilakukan untuk menentukan strategi pemeliharaan tetapi belum mempertimbangkan kualitas dan risiko kegagalan secara komprehensif. Penelitian ini disusun untuk merancang model penentuan kebijakan pemeliharaan melalui pengaturan prioritas kegiatan pemeliharaan berdasarkan risiko kegagalan dan dampaknya terhadap kualitas layanan. Data diperoleh dari survei atribut kualitas layanan dan wawancara pemangku kepentingan perusahaan kereta perkotaan. Menggunakan House of Quality (HoQ), diidentifikasi tingkat kepentingan setiap kegiatan pemeliharaan. Prioritas disusun berdasarkan analisa risiko dan dihasilkan indeks prioritas pada setiap aktivitas pemeliharaan. Indeks ini dikorelasikan dengan jenis kebijakan pemeliharaan yang diperoleh dari beberapa studi sebelumnya
In recent years, maintenance activities have become more complex along with the trends of automation in various industries. It implies maintenance being a dependent factor to service quality, one of which is urban rail transportation that already adhered to the grade of automation. In addition to its complexity, maintenance is also a major contributor in the cost-of-service delivery, reaching 15% of the total operating costs for urban rail services in Indonesia. Maintenance itself was a risk-based business process considering potential failures of technical equipment that affect equipment availability or service revenue indirectly. Previous studies recognized that the increased expectation of service quality and risk of maintenance activities are still linear to maintenance costs. Furthermore. most companies only follow OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) rather than develop their own strategy. Several studies have been conducted to determine maintenance strategies but have not considered the quality and risk of failure comprehensively. Therefore, this study aims to determine maintenance policies through priority arrangement of maintenance activities based on the risk of failure and its impact on service quality. Data are obtained from service quality attributes survey and stakeholder interview of urban rail company. Using House of Quality (HoQ) the importance of each maintenance activity is identified and prioritized subsequently based on potential failure and detection capabilities using FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis). The result shows priority indexing on each maintenance activity. Afterwards those priority can be utilized as the main criteria for determining maintenance policy."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tarif yang diinginkan serta potensi perpindahan bagi pengguna sepeda motor dan angkutan umum akibat pengoperasian layanan rel terintegrasi di Jakarta, dimana dalam analisisnya berbasis pada model pemilihan diskrit logit binomial. Sebelum membuat model, perlu dibangun fungsi utilitas dengan menggunakan pendekatan regresi logistik berdasarkan karakteristik sosio ekonomi, karakteristik perjalanan, dan karakteristik layanan. Data penelitian didapatkan menggunakan metode survei Stated Preference (SP) untuk mengetahui preferensi responden dari kondisi yang sifatnya hipotetikal dan metode survei Revealed Preference (RP) untuk mengetahui karakteristik perjalanan responden. Data penelitian akan dilakukan uji korelasi spearman, lalu dibentuk fungsi utilitas dan diuji kelayakan menggunakan nilai Chi-Square dengan uji Hosmer & Lemmeshow dan uji Omnibus. Model lalu diuji validasi dengan menggunakan metode Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). Model dipilih berdasarkan uji statistik kelayakan dan validasi model yang terbaik. Selanjutnya model terpilih dilakukan uji sensitifitas untuk mengetahui variabel mana yang paling sensitif pada perpindahan moda seseorang. Hasil dari analisis tersebut adalah variabel yang berpengaruh terhadap pilihan responden, model terbaik, dan potensi perpindahan moda. Variabel yang berpengaruh pada penelitian ini adalah biaya perjalanan dan penghematan waktu untuk pengguna sepeda motor dan Transjakarta sedangkan untuk pengguna kereta komuter adalah biaya perjalanan, penghematan waktu, dan tarif yang ditetapkan. Potensi perpindahan pengguna sepeda motor adalah 70% untuk penghematan waktu 10 menit dan 84% untuk penghematan waktu 40 menit; pengguna TransJakarta memiliki potensi perpindahan sebesar 62% untuk penghematan waktu 10 menit dan 83% untuk penghematan waktu 40 menit; dan pengguna kereta komuter memiliki potensi perpindahan sebesar 55.4% untuk penghematan waktu 10 menit dan 73.8% untuk penghematan waktu 40 menit jika tarif sebesar Rp 10.000. Dimana jika menggunakan tarif termahal Rp 15.000, pengguna kereta komuter memiliki potensi perpindahan sebesar 25.4% untuk penghematan waktu 10 menit dan 43.5% untuk penghematan waktu 40 menit.
This study aims to find out the desired rates and shift mode potential for motorcycle and public transportation users due to the operation of integrated rail services in Jakarta. The study was based on a binomial logit discrete selection models. To use the binomial logit model, it is necessary to build utility functions using a logistic regression approach based on socioeconomic characteristics, travel characteristics, and service characteristics. Data research was obtained using Stated Preference (SP) survey method to find out respondents' preferences from hypothetical conditions and Revealed Preference (RP) survey method to find out the respondent's travel characteristics. After that, the analysis of Willingness to Shift (WTS) of a person or the potential displacement of transportation users is commonly used to switch to an integrated rail network. The fare that best suits the choice of prospective passengers integrated rail network is based by Willingness to Pay (WTP). The potential for displacement is obtained through the design of the binary logit model of choice mode using logistic regression analysis. The research data will be done spearman correlation test, then formed utility function and tested feasibility using chi-square value with Hosmer & Lemmeshow test and Omnibus test. The resulting model will be validated using the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) method. Models are selected based on the best feasibility statistics and validation tests. Furthermore, the selected model will be tested for sensitivity to find out which variables are most sensitive to a person's mode shift. The results of the analysis are variables that affect respondents' choice, best model, and potential mode displacement.The variables that influenced this study were expenses, saving time, and set fares. The potential mode-change of motorcycle users is 70% for time savings of 10 minutes and 84% for 40-minute time savings; TransJakarta users have a transfer potential of 62% for 10-minute time savings and 83% for 40-minute time savings; and commuter train users have a transfer potential of 55.4% for time savings of 10 minutes and 73.8% for a 40-minute time saving if the fare is Rp 10,000. Where if using the highest fare Rp 15.000, commuter train users have the potential to move by 25.4% for a time saving of 10 minutes and 43.5% for a time saving of 40 minutes."
