" Since Indonesia does not have a good vita! statistics registration
system, fertility rates for the country as a whole and any administrative
subdivisions must be estimated indirectly. This paper summarizes estimates
resulting from the application of four brdu-ect estimation techniques to seven
Indonesian data sets. The own-children method, the last live birth method, the
Palmore method and the Rele method were applied to all seven data sets:
Estimates were prepared for the whole country and its three major regions for
1971 through 1991. Estimates for individual provinces were also calculated for
some dates. In addition, estimates from other methods, available for some
dates and subnational areas, are presented The data sets used are the 1971
Census, the 1976 Intercensal Survey, the 1980 Census, the 1985 Intercensal
way; the 1987 National Indonesia Contraceptive Prevalence Survey; the I 990
Census, and the 1991 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey. The results
show that fertility in Indonesia fell by at least thirty-nine percent between 1971
and 1991, but the various methods do not agree on the levels of fertility,
particularly the earliest dates .By 1991, however; three estimates of the total
fertility rate for Indonesia as a whole are in as a whole are in a small range:
from a low estimate of 3.22 to a high of 3.35. Fertility declined rapidly in all
of the major regions of the country, although fertility started at higher levels
outside of Java and Bali and hence remains at higher levels today despite
rapid declines.

"This study investigates the relationship between the level of
socioeconomic development and fertility in India. The perspective of this
study is based on the "Theory of Demographic Transition" which states
that as socioeconomic development in a country increases, high fertility
and mortality rates are replaced by low fertility and mortality rates,
leading to population stability. This study tests the following major
hypothesis: The higher the level of socioeconomic development, the lower
the fertility rates among the states of india. The study applies correlation
and multiple regression analysis on the l 992-1993 indian National Family
Health Survey (NFHS) data using four major categories (education,
modernization, health, and family planning ) of socioeconomic development
to predict two measures (crude birth rate and the total fertility rate) of
fertility. The findings support the theory cf demographic transition in large
measure revealing that the overall level of socioeconomic development is
inversely related to fertility among the states of india. Finally. the study
suggests that higher levels of female literacy and acceptance of
contraceptives lead to fertility decline."

"The text encompasses the basic science of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production by mammalian spermatozoa, the way in which these highly reactive molecules are processed by the germ line and the physiological significance of this redox activity in the generation of a functional gamete. The factors responsible for perturbing the delicate balance between physiological redox signaling on the one hand and oxidative stress on the other are also extensively reviewed and some of the first clues concerning the underlying mechanisms (age, heat, infection, cryostorage, aberrant lipid metabolism), clearly identified. From a clinical perspective there are chapters setting out the methods we should be using to diagnose oxidative stress in the male germ line, a clinical perspective on the aetiology of this condition and detailed considerations of the most suitable means of ameliorating such stress from a therapeutic point of view.
