"Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang sejarah, fungsi, dan peran Bait al-Hikmah pada masa Dinasti Abbasiyah. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sejarah dan pendekatan teori perpustakaan. Temuan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa Bait al-Hikmah didirikan pada 830 M dan berakhir pada 1258 M. Perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan di masa Dinasti Abbasiyah diawali dengan aktivitas penerjemahan yang kemudian diikuti oleh babak aktivitas kreatif berupa perkembangan ilmu agama, sains, filsafat, dan humaniora. Kebangkitan ilmu pengetahuan ini terkait oleh peranan tokoh-tokoh intelektual yang terdiri dari khalifah dan para ilmuwan. Bait al-Hikmah berfungsi sebagai perpustakaan, lembaga pendidikan, lembaga riset dan observatorium, serta biro penerjemahan. Bait al-Hikmah juga memiliki peran sebagai tempat berkembangnya para ilmuwan, pembentuk pola pikir, dan percampuran kebudayaan.

This research explains the history, the function, and the role of Bait al-Hikmah in the Abbasid period. This research uses historical method and library theories. The findings of this research is that Bait al-Hikmah was established in 830 AD and ended up in 1258 AD. The development of human knowledge in the Abbasid period was started with the activity of translating which was later followed by many raising events such as the emergence of the religious subjects, science, philosophy, and humanities. This improving human knowledge cannot be separated from the role of the intellectuals consist of caliphs and scientists. Bait Al-Hikmah was functioned as library, education center, research center and observatory, and translation center. Bait Al-Hikmah also became a place where many scientists were born, many thoughts were shaped, and many cultures were acculturated."
