"ABSTRAKPenelitian mengenai pengaruh dominan Bizantium melalui agama Katolik Timur dalam pembentukan budaya Rusia, khususnya yang terjadi pada masa Kiev. Tujuannya adalah untuk membuktikan bahwa melalui budaya-budaya yang dihasilkan bangsa tersebut pada periode Kiev Katolik. Timur merupakan pusat dari pembentukan budaya Rusia. Teori yang digunakan sebagai landasan pengerjaan skripsi adalah Teori Fungsional dari Bronislaw Malinowski tentang kebudayaan, guna menguatkan hubungan antara agama dengan kebudayaan. Data-data didapat dari perpustakaan Fakultas Sastra, dan dosen pembimbing. Ditambah pula dengan wawancara dengan Ramo Daniel Bambang Dwibiantoro dan Romo Alexios Cahyadi, pada tangga! 23 dan 25 Maret 1995 di Surakarta. Kedua romp tersebut adalah para gerejawan dari Gereja Ortodoks Indonesia di Surakarta. Antara agama dan budaya mempunyai hubungan yang yang saling berkaitan. Dan hasil penelitian ini sangat memperjeias adanya hubungan yang sangat kuat antara agama dan budaya pada Bangsa Rusia periode Kiev. Walaupun Bangsa Rusia satu ras dengan bangsa Eropa lainnya, namun pengaruh agama terhadap budayanya mempunyai keistimewaan tersendiri. Ini disebabkan karena agama yang dianutnya, yaitu Katolik Timur mempunyai sumber pengajaran yang berbeda dengan agama Kristen lainnya, sehingga budaya dan karakter Bangsa Rusia berbeda dengan bangsa Eropa lainnya.
