"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas representasi perpustakaan dan profesi pustakawan dalam empat buah iklan televisi yang mempromosikan berbagai produk, yaitu Pampers Disposable Diapers, Scope Mouthwash, Kellogg?s Pop-Tarts, dan Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode semiotik yang merujuk pada denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos dari Roland Barthes untuk mengumpulkan data. Hasil temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa iklan memiliki fungsi persuasif. Penelitian dengan metode serupa dapat memperluas dan mengembangkan ilmu perpustakaan dalam lingkup yang lebih luas dan populis.

ABSTRACTThis undergraduated-thesis describes the representation of libraries and librarians in four television advertisement which promoted different kind of products such as Pampers Disposable Diapers, Scope Mouthwash, Kellogg?s Pop-Tarts, and Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse. This reasearch is a qualitative research with semiotic method and Roland Barthes? denotation, connotation, and myth to gather data. Result of this research show that advertisement has a purpose to persuade people, and how necessary to increase the study about mass media which contain of library and librarian representation in it."

"Konstruksi pemberitaan pada media televisi komersial dapat ditinjau antara lain dari kriminologi budaya yang salah satu teorinya resiprositas. Media sebagai agen kontrol masih ditemukan adanya pemberitaan yang melanggar aturan penyiaran dengan unsur kekerasan, sadisme dll. Sementara itu, latar belakang lembaga penyiaran program kriminalitas yang dikemas oleh jurnalis memiliki peran vital dalam penyajian berita berita kriminalitas. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Objek penelitian adalah berita kriminal khas pada empat stasiun televisi meliputi berita umum dan khusus kriminalitas. Teknik analisis data menggunakan framing dari Gamson & Modigliani (1989). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa resiprositas dalam pemberitaan kriminalitas dalam program isi siaran terjadi sesuai dengan target dan visi misi pemilik stasiun televisi yang harus dijalankan oleh jurnalis pemberitaannya. Meskipun tidak ada arahan tertentu namun jurnalis pemberitaan kriminal tetap melihat potensi pasar, dimana berita yang dapat menjaring pemirsanya secara luas dan banyak untuk keberlangsungan program pemberitaan kriminalitas di stasiun televisi.

News construction on commercial television media can be reviewed among others from cultural criminology and one of which is reciprocity theory. The media as control agents are still found to have news that’s violates broadcasting rules with elemen of violence, sadism, etc. Meanwhile the background of broadcasting institutions of crime programs packaged by journalists has a vital role in presenting crime news. This research approach is descriptive qualitative. The object of research is the typical crime news on four television stations covering general and specific crime news. The data analysis technique usd from Gamson and Modiglani (1989). The results of study indicate the reciprocity in reporting on crime in broadcast conten programs occours in acccordance with the target and vision and mission of the television station owner that must be carried out by reporting journalist. Although there is no specific direction criminal reporting journalist still see the market potential, where news can attract a wide and large audience for the sustainability of crime reporting programs on television stations."
