"Kemunduran merupakan persoalan yang tengah melanda dunia Arab-Islam. Kemunduran ini ditandai dengan ketertinggalan Dunia Arab-Islam dari dunia Barat dalam bidang ekonomi, ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Muhammad Abid Al-Jabiri hadir untuk menjawab persoalan ini dengan mengajukan tawaran pembaruan dengan apa yang ia sebut al-qiraah al-muashirah. Al-qiraah al-muashirah adalah suatu telaah kritis atas tradisi pemikiran Arab-Islam.
