Fresh off the Boat menawarkan perspektif baru dalam memandang kelompok rasminoritas ini melalui tatanan sitkom tradisional yang mengadaptasi karakter penduduk Asia. Sitkom ini jugamenggunakan humor untuk menentang miskonsepsi-miskonsepsi yang ada di khalayak ramai mengenaikelompok ras Asia-Amerika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas penggunaan komedi di dalam tayanganFresh off the Boat menggunakan konsep color-consciousness dan analisis tekstual. Penelitian ini menyimpulkanbahwa Fresh off the Boat memperlihatkan komedi sebagai sebuah strategi perlawanan yang berbeda.

ABSTRACTAsian-Americans have long been the victims of color-blindness practice in media. However, a shift started toemerge these past years with the premiere of some race-focused-sitcoms, such as Fresh off the Boat. Fresh offthe Boat offers a new perspective on Asian-Americans society through a traditional sitcom setup that adoptedAsian characteristics. The sitcom also uses humor as a way to contest misconceptions of this minority group inthe dominant view. This study attempts to examine the use of comedy in Fresh off the Boat using the concept ofcolor-consciousness and textual analysis. This study finds that Fresh off the Boat shows different comicstrategies of resistance."
