"In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, a revival movement of classical Javanese (Kawi) literature arose in the royal courts of south Central Java. As part of this revival, Old Javanese literary works were rewritten in Modern Javanese, giving Javanese people at that time renewed access to their literary heritage. The paper deals with a specific manuscript, Add MS 12279 in the British Library, which contains Modern Javanese word-for-word and line-for-line “translations” inserted between lines of the Old Javanese epic poem Bhāratayuddha. The unique structure of the manuscript reveals the translation strategies used to address the challenges of balancing the transmission of meaning with the modernization of language. Exploring the interpretation of the Old Javanese work in modern Java sheds light on the entwinement of the different languages (Old Javanese and Modern Javanese), different religions (Hindu and Islam), and different times (ancient and modern)."

"Penelitian ini mengkaji naskah Wulang Utami Tigang Prakawis (selanjutnya disingkat: WUTP). WUTP merupakan naskah koleksi Perpustakaan Nasional Republik Indonesia dengan kode koleksi NB 816. Satu dari tiga ajaran dalam WUTP membahas mengenai kebahagiaan. Pembahasan mengenai kebahagiaan dipilih karena ketiga ajaran yang terkandung dalam teks WUTP memiliki keterkaitan dengan kebahagiaan. Namun, standar kebahagiaan mengalami perbedaan makna sesuai dengan kebudayaan yang melingkupinya. Oleh karena itu, masalah utama dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana kebahagiaan berdasarkan perspektif kebudayaan Jawa dalam teks WUTP? Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kebahagiaan dalam perspektif kebudayaan Jawa yang dikemukakan dalam teks WUTP sebagai salah satu perspektif dari naskah kuno Jawa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode dan langkah kerja filologi serta dikaitkan dengan teori kebutuhan Abraham Maslow. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Kebahagiaan dimaknai sebagai hal utama, diketahui banyak orang, dapat digapai dengan usaha, serta memiliki keterkaitan dengan kebutuhan; (2) Tingkatan kebutuhan Maslow dapat dicapai dengan pemenuhan faktor-faktor kebahagiaan dalam WUTP; dan (3) Kebahagiaan yang disampaikan dalam teks WUTP merupakan gambaran ideal mengenai kebahagiaan pada paruh pertama abad ke-20. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat dinyatakan bahwa teks WUTP merupakan ideologi yang memaknai kebahagiaan memiliki keterkaitan dengan kebutuhan pokok manusia.

This study examines the text of Wulang Utami Tigang Prakawis (WUTP). WUTP is a manuscript collection of National Library of Indonesia with the collection code, NB 816. One of the three teachings of WUTP discusses on happiness. Happiness was chosen because all of the teachings in the WUTP text are related to it. However, happiness has different meaning depends on the culture. The main problem in this study is how is happiness based on the WUTP text? The purpose of this study is to find out happiness in the perspective of Javanese culture which is stated in the WUTP text. Qualitative study is applied in this study with the use of philological work methods and the needs theory by Abraham Maslow. The results indicate that: (1) Happiness is a main thing, well-known, achieveable, and has relationship with needs. (2) Maslow's hierarchy of needs can be achieved by fulfilling the happiness factors in the WUTP text, and (3) Happiness in the WUTP text is an ideal picture of happiness in the first half of the 20th century. Based on the results, it can be states that the WUTP text is an ideology that interprets happiness as relating to basic human needs."

"Skripsi ini membahas edisi teks dari naskah Tractaat Van Vridchap, analisis struktur surat, dan analisis sejarah yang terdapat dalam Tractaat Van Vridschap. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode edisi naskah tunggal atau metode kritis untuk metode penyuntingan teks. Penelitian ini menghasilkan analisis struktur surat dan sejarah di wilayah Ternate. Struktur Tractaat Van Vridschap mempunyai persamaan dan perbedaan dengan struktur surat perjanjian masa kini. Surat perjanjian persahabatan yang dibuat Belanda dan Ternate bukanlah surat yang dibentuk sungguh-sungguh atas dasar persahabatan.

This thesis discusses the issue of the text of the Tractaat Van Vridschap manuscript, analysis of letters and historical analysis contained in Tractaat Van Vridschap. This study uses a qualitative method using a single copy edition or critical method for text editing method. This research resulted in the analysis of the structure and history of the region letter Ternate. Structure of Tractaat Van Vridschap has similarities and differences with the present structure of the agreement. The agreement made by Dutch and Ternate is not an earnest letter formed on the basis of friendship."

"Tesis ini menyajikan edisi teks dan naskah Parimbwan L.31,yang merupakan koleksi naskah Merapi-Merbabu dan memberikan pemaknaan terhadap simbol berupa ilustrasi yang terdapat pada naskah ini. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian filologi dengan pemaknaan simbol yang memakai pendekatan semiotik menurut Perce. Hasil penelitian memberikan edisi teks dan naskah Paribean L.31 dan pemaknaan ilustrasi yang hampir semuanya mendukung fungsi ilustrasi terhadap teks tersebut.

The focus of this thesis is to provide a textual edition of the Parimbwan l. 31 manuscript, which is from the collection of Merapi-Merbabu manuscripts, and to interpret the meanings of symbols contained in the manuscript. This research is a philological research with symbols interpretation using Peirce?s method of Semiotics. The result of this research is a textual edition of the Parimbwan L. 31 mansucript dan the interpretation of illustrations contained in the manuscript which almost all of them functions to support the text."
