"ABSTRAKPenyair pada masa awal romantisme sering mengangkat tema seperti kebebasan dan individu dengan menggunakan unsur alam. Seri ketiga La Légende des Siècles merupakan buku puisi terakhir sebelum Victor Hugo meninggal. Ocean merupakan salah satu contoh puisi di dalam seri itu yang memiliki pertentangan ruang antara kecil dan besar, pembatasan dan perluasan. Artikel ini akan mengaitkan makna dan fungsi metafora serta struktur puisi yang digunakan oleh Victor Hugo dalam puisi Ocean dengan kehidupan pribadi Hugo serta konteks sejarah pada masa itu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik studi kepustakaan. Melalui analisis fungsi metafora Camp (2003) dan struktur puisi Schmitt & Viala (2015), ditemukan bahwa puisi Ocean mencerminkan Hugo sebagai penyair romantis yang berinovasi sehingga berbeda daripada aturan klasisisme dan menempatkan lautan dan manusia di dalam puisi sebagai representasi Napoleon III secara khusus dan sistem monarki secara umum dan masyarakat Prancis pada masa itu. Metafora digunakan untuk menggambarkan sifat pemerintah Prancis saat itu.

ABSTRACT

Poets in the early days of romanticism often raised themes such as freedom and individuals using natural elements. The third series of La Legende des Siecles is the last poetry book before Victor Hugo died. Ocean is one of the examples of poems in the series that has spatial contradictions, restrictions and expansion. This article will link the meaning and function of the metaphor and the structure of poem used by Victor Hugo in Ocean with Hugos personal life and historical context at that time. This study uses qualitative methods with library study techniques. Through the analysis of the function of metaphor from Camp (2003) and the structure of the poem from Schmitt & Viala (2015), it was found that Ocean reflected Hugo as a romantic poet who innovated so that his poem was different from the rules of classicism and put the ocean and humans in the poem as representations of Napoleon III and the monarchy system in general and French society at that time. Metaphor is used to describe the nature of the French government at that time."
