"Kerajaan Kedah adalah salah satu kerajaan yang ramai dikunjungi pedagang dari berbagai negara karena letaknya di pesisir pantai. Oleh karena perkembangan penduduknya yang pesat, pemerintah akhirnya membuat Undang-undang Kedah untuk mengatur kehidupan masyarakatnya. Salah satunya adalah Undang-undang Kedah ML 25 yang berisi pasal pernikahan. Di dalamnya, terdapat besaran mahar yang merupakan hasil implementasi agama Islam dan Hindu. Konsep mahar yang dimiliki oleh agama Islam berakulturasi dengan agama Hindu, yaitu sistem kasta. Hal ini ditunjukkan pada syarat mahar yang besarannya disesuaikan dengan kasta para calon perempuan. Oleh karena itu, masalah yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana pengaruh agama Hindu dan Islam pada syarat mahar yang terdapat dalam pasal pernikahan UUK ML 25. Untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan kajian tekstologi dengan pendekatan historis dan sosiologi hukum. Adapun metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif untuk menjabarkan secara rinci. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa seorang raja mampu menggunakan kekuasaannya dengan mengimplementasikan dua konsep berbeda yang dimiliki agama Hindu dan Islam melalui Undang-undang Kedah untuk kepentingan pemerintahannya.

The kingdom of Kedah is one of the kingdoms that is crowded with traders from various countries because of its location on the coast. Due to the rapid development of its population, the government finally made the Kedah Law to regulate the lives of its people. One of them is Undang-undang Kedah ML 25 which contains articles on marriage. In the article, There is regulation for the amount of dowry which is the result of the implementation of Islam and Hinduism. The concept of dowry which is owned by Islam is acculturated with Hinduism, namely the caste system. In terms of dowry, the amount is adjusted to the caste of the female bride to be. Therefore, the problem raised in this study is how the influence of Hinduism and Islam on the dowry requirements contained in the marriage article UUK ML 25. To answer this problem, this study uses a textological study with a historical and sociology of law approach. The method used is descriptive qualitative to describe in detail. The results of this study indicate that a king is able to use his power by implementing the different concepts of two religions, Hinduism and Islam, through the Kedah Law for the benefit of his government."

"Dowry (mahr) is someting precious or valuable to be fulfilled by a husband to his wife at the time of marriage. The dowry may be named at the time of the marriage contract, called a musamma dowry, or may not be named at the time of the marriage contract, called a musamma dowry, or may onot be named, called mitsl dowry (equivalent). This later dowry can be equited to the dowry of the nearest relatives, ranging from mother, sisters, sisters from the some father, aunt (mother;s younger sister), the daughters of a sister.
