"Artikel ini mengungkapkan dominasi tema La Négritude yang ada dalam puisi Le Totem karya Leopold Sedar Senghor yang merupakan puisi yang lahir di bawah gerakan La Négritude. Adapun La Negritude merupakan sebuah gerakan sastra yang menentang penindasan dan penekanan terhadap bangsa kulit hitam Afrika. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif, tepatnya dengan beberapa teori tertentu dari pendekatan strukturalisme. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya pengungkapan konsep La Negritude dalam puisi Le Totem di mana sang penutur menyatakan bahwa ia harus melindungi warisan rasnya dan berusaha memegang teguh nilai-nilai yang diwarisi nenek moyangnya untuk melawan ras yang mendominasi.

This article revealed the domination of the La Negritude's theme in Leopold Sedar Senghor's poem, Le Totem. La Négritude itself is a literary movement that challenged oppression and coercion on the coloured African people. The method used in this research is the qualitative method, in particular compatible theories from the structuralism approach. The result of this research is that Le Totem reveals the concept of La Nnégritude: the narrator intended to uphold his racial heritage and his ancestors values to oppose the dominating race."
