"Hatta and Indonesia’s Independent and Active Foreign Policy” is a book published by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Indonesia, edited by Evan A. Laksmana and Lina Alexandra. This book gathers a dozen rising scholars and analysts of Indonesian foreign policy to examine the conditions and extent to which “independent and active principle” - first articulated by Vice President Mohammad Hatta in 1948 - has been used and abused in various strategic policy issues.
The book launch event aims to introduce this book to the public, especially stakeholders related to the formulation of Indonesia’s foreign policy. Furthermore, we would also want to get the public’s critical response to the analyses contained in this book. The event will be conducted in a hybrid setting in which offline participants are limited to 60 people."

Russian foreign policy in the contemporary era has a number of dynamics, one of which is the trend of increasing intensity in relations with actors in the Asia-Pacific region, or Russia's turn to the East. This occurs in tandem with political and economic dynamics on both the domestic and structural levels. However, the study of Russia's pivot to the East remains underexplored by international relations scholars from the Asia-Pacific region itself, including Indonesia. Therefore, this literature review will examine the development of the Russian Foreign Policy’s Turn to the East by exploring 39 academic works under this topic using taxonomic analysis, with the aim of providing a comprehensive overview of Russia's turn to the East. This literature review has led to several findings: (1) Russia's turn to the East is driven by several strategic, ideational and special considerations at the domestic and structural levels; (2) the implementation of Russia's turn to the East generally occurs within geopolitical and geoeconomic dimensions, which has led to rather suboptimal results when compared to the optimistic rhetoric of the Russian government regarding its execution, due to various internal and external factors; (3) the scope of Russia's turn to the East includes certain countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific that are prioritized by Russia and offer promising prospects for beneficial relations with Russia, especially in the economic and strategic dimension; (4) Russia's turn to the East has generally experienced dynamics and evolution throughout its implementation from 2012 to the present. Meanwhile, several research gaps have been identified, both contextual and textual, which broadly relate to the lack of diverse perspectives used in the discussion of Russia's turn to the East and the lack of study of Russia's turn to the East by Asia-Pacific scholars themselves, particularly from China."
