"Rumah susun sederhana atau Rusunawa merupakan cara pemerintah untuk mengatasi masalah lahan dan hunian yang tidak layak di Indonesia, dalam hal ini khususnya di DKI Jakarta. Walaupun pemerintah telah berupaya menyeselesaikan permasalahan yang ada namun muncul masalah baru yang dirasakan oleh penghuni Rusunawa seperti masalah Ekonomi, Sosial, hingga masalah lingkungan. Green roof yang dianggap memiliki banyak manfaat sehingga cukup ramai diperbincangkan dan diterapkan diberbagai bangunan baik di Indonesia maupun di luar negeri.Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan potensi penerapan green roof pada Rusunawa di Kota Jakarta. Manfaat ekonomi, sosial, lingkungan, hingga estetika dan desain yang bisa dirasakan dalam penerapan green roof pada Rusunawa. Walaupun terdapat hambatan dan tantangan dalam penerapan green roof yang harus dihadapi jika penerapannya dilakukan. Hasil penulisan ini menunjukkan bahwa potensi penerapan konsep atap hijau untuk menghadirkan berbagai kegiatan di Rusunawa dapat menjadi alternatif dalam mengatasi masalah yang ada.

Simple flats (Rusunawa) is a way for the government to overcome the lack of land and also inadequate housing in Indonesia, in this case especially in DKI Jakarta. Although the government has tried to resolve existing problems, new problems have been felt by residents of Rusunawa, such as economic, social, and environmental issues. A green roof is considered to have many benefits so it is quite widely discussed and applied in various buildings both in Indonesia and abroad.In this study found the potential application of green roof on Rusunawa in Jakarta. Kota hijau diwujudkan melalui pemenuhan 8 atribut, terdiri atas green planning and design, green community, green open space, green water, green waste, green building, green transportation, dan green energy. Salah satu atribut yang secara nyata dapat diukur dan telah menjadi masalah adalah green open space (ruang terbuka hijau). Isu kebutuhan akan ruang terbuka, terutama ruang terbuka hijau, muncul sebagai akibat perubahan lingkungan fisik yang terjadi di tingkat nasional dan internasional.Kota Depok sebagai kotamadya yang baru berusia 14 (empat belas) tahun, secara administratif berada di bawah kewenangan Provinsi Jawa Barat, tetapi perkembangannya sangat dipengaruhi oleh Provinsi DKI Jakarta. Kota Depok merupakan wilayah hunian tujuan masyarakat Jabodetabek dan wilayah dengan fasilitas pendidikan yang dituju oleh seluruh Indonesia. Kota Depok telah berkomitmen untuk berupaya mewujudkan kota hijau melalui penandatanganan Piagam Kota Hijau tanggal 8 November 2012. Kemampuan kota Depok mewujudkan kota hijau dapat dilihat berdasarkan daya dukung dan daya tampung, potensi sosial dan budaya serta penegakan hukum di kota tersebut.
